🇬🇪 Tinatin Berdzenishvili appointed as new Director General of GPB

The EBU has announced that Tinatin Berdzenishvili has been appointed as the new Director General of Georgian broadcaster GPB.

A familiar face with plenty of experience

Georgian Idol viewers will recognise Tinatin, as she has been a jury member on the show since it first aired. The GPB Board of Trustees, consisting of nine members, appointed Tinatin on a six-year term.

The EBU released the following statement:

Tinatin has more than 20 years of experience in the field of media and marketing communications. She has extensive experience in media management, strategic planning, digital media, and introducing new technologies.

Tinatin has worked in many different positions at the GPB; since 2018 she has been the First Deputy Director General, while on August 18, 2020, after the resignation of the former Director General Vasil Maglapheridze, she was appointed Acting Director General. She is also a Ph.D. Candidate in Media Studies at Shota Rustaveli Theatre and Film Georgian State University.

Georgia in the Eurovision Song Contest

Georgia debuted back in 2007 and has since made 12 appearances to date. Their best result comes from their 2010 and 2011 participation, where they finished 9th.

Most recently, Tornike Kipiani was selected to represent Georgia this year after winning Georgian Idol. He was supposed to perform his entry “Take Me As I Am” in the Netherlands. However, it was announced in March that this year’s Eurovision Song Contest has been cancelled. Nonetheless, it has been confirmed by GPB that Tornike will return in 2021.
