WATCH: Sertab Erener releases video for new single ‘Bastırın Kızlar’

The song was written by a fellow Turkish Eurovision entrant

It’s been fifteen years since Sertab Erener won the Eurovision Song Contest, securing Turkey’s first and only win.  Her presence in the Turkish music charts is still a strong one as she releases the music video for brand new single ‘Bastırın Kızlar’.

Sertab teams up with fellow Eurovision entrant Can Bonomo

Bastırın Kızlar translates as Go Girls and aims to reflect the strength of women with lyrics such as “Our patience is exhausted, we opened flags.. Go on, girls!”.   The song was composed by Can Bonomo, who represented the nation in 2012 with Love Me Back, Turkey’s final appearance at the contest.
The song is an uptempo pop track with unmistakable Turkish elements. The video was directed by Sinan Tuncay and features a vast female cast, echoing the song’s message of female empowerment.

Celebrating 25 years in music

Sertab recently celebrated 25 years in the music business by launching her very own musical. Played across Turkey earlier in the year, the show took audiences through a time warp, showcasing 25 years of her artistic life in the 1990s and through the 2000s.

Although currently on tour in Turkey, the 53 year old announced a select few shows outside of the capital. In January, she performed a selection of her greatest hits at a sell-out gig at London’s indigo at The O2.
She has previously pushed for Turkey’s return to the Eurovision Song Contest. Last year she set the rumour-mill into overdrive when she wished luck to the country’s next representative, prompting speculation that a return was on the cards.
