🇬🇷 Stefania to perform “Last Dance” at Eurovision 2021

The song is set for a March release

A few months ago, it was announced that Stefania would record five potential entries for Eurovision 2021. Now, it’s been announced that she will perform “Last Dance” at this year’s contest in Rotterdam. The song is set to be released in March.

The song is written by Dimitris Kontopoulos, Arcade and Sharon Vaughn – who also wrote Stefania’s 2020 entry, “SUPERG!RL”. Initial reports say that the song has an “80s pop” feel, much like the songs of Brit Award-winning artist Dua Lipa.

Second time lucky?

Last February, ERT confirmed that Stefania would represent Greece at the 2020 Eurovision Song Contest. Of course, the contest was cancelled a month later. However, soon after in March, ERT confirmed that they planned to ‘resume co-operation’ with Stefania for the 2021 contest.

In preparation for this year’s contest, Stefania recorded five potential entries which were then judged by a committee set up by Greek broadcaster ERT. Today, it has been announced that “Last Dance” has been selected as the Greek entry for this year’s contest.

The final version of the song will be recorded on the 10th January in Greece, with the video clip set to be filmed in February. Kostas Karydas will return to direct the video, while Fokas Evangelinos will also reprise his role as the entry’s creative director.

Reflecting on a difficult year

According to EurovisionFun, who have already “listened to the song”, the entry has a “modern orchestration” which highlights Stefania’s vocal skills. The song has a message of hope, reflecting on the challenges faced by young people in 2020, but saying that “the future must be bright”, as it “will not be the last dance”.

The website also reports that the broadcaster and artistic team have “high expectations” for the song, and they hope it will achieve Greece’s best result of the past 10 years. This ‘best result’ is currently a sixth-place finish achieved by Koza Mostra in 2013, with “Alcohol is Free”.

The entry is set to be revealed in March, ahead of the annual Head of Delegation meeting which is scheduled for 15th March.

No stranger to the contest

Stefania’s Eurovision journey began back in 2016, when she participated in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest as a member of the group Kisses. They represent The Netherlands in Valletta with the song “Kisses & Dancin’”, finishing eighth.

Stefania had been selected internally to represent Greece at Eurovision 2020 in Rotterdam. She had been due to perform “SUPERG!RL” in the first half of semi final 2 in May. Stefania will return to represent Greece at the 2021 contest, with “Last Dance”.
