Mayor of Sanremo confirms reduced audience for Sanremo 2022

There will be a reduced audience at Sanremo 2022. The mayor of Sanremo, Alberto Biancheri has confirmed this in a statement to Italian press agency ANSA.

The mayor of the Ligurian city confirmed that the Teatro Ariston, which plays host to the yearly music festival, would not be at full capacity this year, due to current health concerns:

Let’s see what will happen between now and January 10, but it will be a Festival with the public. Even if it will not be a one hundred percent Festival like the one of 2019, it cannot be compared to last year.

It will certainly be a Festival that up to three months ago none of us would have ever imagined having to face. Unfortunately, the infections are high.

Some side-events already cancelled

The broadcaster has already cancelled some of the planned Sanremo side-events. An idea for guests performing in the Piazza Colombo will not come to fruition, and, in line with local restrictions, the organisers will avoid performances in outdoor spaces. They are still in discussions for different plans for alternative indoor venues for events around the music festival.

Workers on the festival and artists will also have to comply with local and national requirements regarding current COVID-19 restrictions. This requires them presenting a Super Green Pass certificate, the Italian certification of full vaccination or recovery (a standard Green Pass also accepts a negative test result). Artists must comply with Festival regulations that requires them to follow any local or national regulations.

There will also be a limit of who has access to the Ariston. Only representatives of the record company, one for each, who have special passes will be allowed access to the rehearsals according to the rules.

Audience members will also need to present a Super Green Pass to spectate the festival. Restrictions are strengthening across Italy from 10 January. Sanremo will therefore fall within a period of heightened restrictions across the country.

Sanremo 2022

This will be the 72nd edition of Sanremo Music Festival. It will be held between 1st and 5th February 2022. Format changes are coming to the show. The Nuovo Proposte category has been removed and three acts have been put forward from the newcomer’s Sanremo Giovanni selection. The 25 artists participating were revealed last month.
