🇸🇮 Slovenia: Ana Soklič’s entry has been selected internally

The song will be in English, and is not a ballad

In December, it was announced that EMA 2021 would go ahead, albeit as a selection purely for Ana Soklič’s entry for Rotterdam. However, due to the pandemic, the show will now be a song presentation. The song has already been selected and, unlike Voda, will be in English.

EMA 2021 is due to take place on February 27th. Although originally intended to be a mini-selection of 2-3 entries for Ana, the format has been changed by RTVSLO. Instead, the show will be a celebration of the 60-year anniversary of EMA, and the official presentation of Ana’s entry.

Details about the song

The song was selected from a record 191 submissions. In a statement, Ana has revealed that the song has been chosen, and is NOT a ballad like it’s predecessor “Voda”:

I sincerely thank everyone who contributed their works, we had a hard time choosing and choosing. In fact, the song may sound great in the other singer’s interpretation, but in my vocal performance it sounds completely different. I am very happy with the chosen song, I hope you will all be too. We also made good use of the unique opportunity with recorded backing vocals, which is allowed by this year’s Eurovision rules due to all the measures. I can’t wait to be able to share the song with you. And, no, it’s not a ballad.

Ana about her entry

In addition, the song will be in English, having been written by a highly successful songwriter. According to the press release, the author of the song has collaborated with popstars like Miley Cyrus, and has even written a winning Eurovision entry from the past decade.

EMA 2021 will be hosted by Lea Sirk and Nejc Šmit from Studio 1 TV Slovenia from 8pm CET on February 27.

Ana Soklič in Eurovision

After winning EMA 2020, Ana Soklič was set to represent Slovenia in Eurovision Song Contest 2020 with the song “Voda”. However, as the contest was cancelled due the COVID-19 pandemic, the Slovenian broadcaster RTV Slovenija internally selected Ana to represent the country in 2021.
