🇲🇰 North Macedonia withdraws from Junior Eurovision 2020

The "fire" won't be lit in 2020!

Today, MRT announced that North Macedonia will not take part in this year’s Junior Eurovision Song Contest. They join both Wales and Australia in leaving the Junior Eurovision family this year.

So far, 13 countries have announced they will take part in this year’s contest, with the most recent being Malta. The contest is set to be held on 29th November in Warsaw, after Viki Gabor won the 2019 contest for Poland with “Superhero”.

Ongoing concerns amid pandemic

Speaking to Eurovoix, MRT confirmed that their management in change of their participation in the contest opted out of participating this year due to the current situation surrounding the Covid-19 pandemic.

Back in May, MRT confirmed to ESCXTRA that they were awaiting instructions from the EBU before making a decision on whether or not to participate.

North Macedonia in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2019

On 9th July 2019, Mila Moskov was internally selected as the North Macedonian representative for Junior Eurovision 2019. Her song, “Fire”, was released on 15th October. Written by Lazar Cvetkoski and Magdalena Cvetkoska, the song finished in 6th place overall.

Scoring just one set of 12 points from Malta, the song scored 100 points in the jury voting. It received a further 50 points from the online voting.

We hope to see North Macedonia back next year! What’s your favourite memories of North Macedonia in the contest?

  1. They withdrew because they\’re lazy and they\’re using COVID-19 as an excuse to not to work lol (And I think Australia and Wales are pissed off because they underperformed last year)

    cheers

  2. @Tony in Australia they have tough restrictions in Australia and do you think Australia will let a kid go to Poland to sing? Wales withdrew because of COVID-19 and why pull out if you get your best result ( Ignore Slovenia and Montenegro 2015). North Macedonia pulled out of JESC because of COVID-19 and they have lots of cases for a small country
