🇷🇺 Russia confirms participation for Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2021

With the year only beginning, most countries are currently focusing on preparing for this year’s Eurovision Song Contest. However, some countries are going one step further, and even preparing for this year’s Junior Eurovision Song Contest.

Russia, is the next country to confirm that they will be present in the 19th edition of the Junior Eurovision Song Contest, which is due to take place in France.

Submissions now open for young artists

Russia is intending to select its representative for Russia at the 2021 Junior Eurovision Song Contest, via a national selection once again, which is due to take place in September. Rules for Russia’s national selection can be found here.

Singers aged between 9 and 14 years old are invited to take part, as per the Junior Eurovision rules, are now able to submit an application right here, with submissions due to close on August 25.

The winner will once again be decided by a 50/50 online voting and jury split. Online voting will open when the finalists are revealed.

Junior Eurovision 2021 – what we know so far

After winning the 2020 Junior Eurovision Song Contest, it was revealed that France will have the honour of hosting the 2021 Junior Eurovision Song Contest in France. At the time of writing, the date and the host city of this year’s contest, is yet to be determined.

So far, the following countries, have expressed their interest to participate in this year’s contest:

Russia at the Junior Eurovision Song Contest

Russia debuted at Junior Eurovision in 2005. The country have only internally selected their artist once – in 2014. The rest of Russia’s acts have been selected via a national final. Vladislav Krutskikh represented Russia upon their debut, with the song “Doroga k solntsu”. The song finished 9th with 66 points.

Since their debut, Russia has participated 16 times. Winning the competition twice, in 2006 and 2017. In 2020, Sofia Feskova won the right to represent Russia in the competition, where she placed 10th overall with 88 points from the juries and the online vote.
