🇱🇹 Lithuania: The Roop win Pabandom iš Naujo 2021!

The Roop have reclaimed their title with 'Discoteque' and will represent Lithuania once again!

Tonight, the fifth entry of Eurovision 2021 was confirmed! Having participated in their first competitive round of the selection, The Roop have reclaimed their title. They will be performing ‘Discotheque’ in the first half of semi final one on 18 May 2021.

The selection was broadcast on LRT from 20:00 CET tonight (February 6). As a four-show selection, this has marked a considerable down-sizing of previous Lithuanian selections. For example, Eurovizijos Atranka 2018 consisted of nine shows in total (plus an internet wildcard round).

Many people seemingly expected the result, considering a) they won last year by a huge margin and b) ‘Discoteque’ is currently gaining impressive streaming numbers across Europe. However, as we noted in our recent interview with him, runner-up Gebrasy had won both the heats and the semi final, topping the jury vote in both shows.

Last year, The Roop achieved a 35,000 vote lead (roughly), this year, it increased to a massive 68,000. They also received top scores from the whole jury.

Prior to tonight’s final, LRT confirmed that a larger-than-usual jury would vote on the finalists. These eight jury members cast their votes remotely, rather than in-studio. In addition, the jury had the deciding vote in the case of a tie.
