Duncan Laurence’s Eurovision 2019 winning entry, “Arcade”, has entered the UK Official Singles Chart Top 40 for the first time, at number 39. The song previously peaked at number 67 on the singles chart, following the contest in Tel Aviv two years ago.
The entry into the top 40 comes weeks after “Arcade” become the most-streamed Eurovision entry on Spotify. The song re-entered the top 100 on 8th January, and has been slowly climbing the charts since. Last week, the song was at number 78, meaning it has risen 39 places to enter the top 40 today. The song has also re-entered the Irish Singles Chart today, at number 30.
TikTok success
The song has recently had a resurgence worldwide, following success on TikTok. In total, the song has been used on over 500,000 videos on the video-sharing app, and it seems as though more and more people have also been streaming the reigning Eurovision champion on Spotify.
The song is currently sitting at number 86 in the Spotify Top 200 chart. This means it is currently the 86th most-streamed song globally on the streaming service, with over 1 million daily streams.
With the song making its appearance on the chart, Radio 1 host and BBC Eurovision semi-finals commentator Scott Mills said that “the Eurovision community has really perked up” at the news.
It’s not the first time since the 2019 contest that a Eurovision song has reached the UK Top 40. Last year, Daði Freyr spent six weeks in the top 40, peaking at number 34 in June.
Duncan Laurence at the Eurovision Song Contest
The Netherlands internally selected Duncan Laurence to represent them at the Eurovision Song Contest 2019. In Tel Aviv, Duncan managed to bring The Netherlands to the Grand Final for a fourth consecutive year.
In addition to his participation in the Grand Final, Duncan also managed to win the ‘Press Award’ for the ‘Marcel Bezençon Awards’ as voted for by the Press.
After 44 years, Duncan managed to win the Eurovision Song Contest for The Netherlands. The last time the country won the contest was in 1975 with “Ding-a-Dong”.
