Today RTS the national broadcaster of Serbia has whipped up a storm! As Hurricane release their Eurovision 2021 entry ‘Loco Loco’, which will represent the Balkan nation in Rotterdam this May.

Hurricane’s Eurovision journey

Last year Balkan pop group Hurricane said ‘Hasta la vista’ to the rest of the competition in Beovizija 2020. They won with a maximum total of 24 points from the combined televote and jury scores. Thus expecting to take to the stage for Serbia in May 2020 at the Ahoy Arena, Rotterdam. However, just weeks after selection, the EBU had to unfortunately cancel the Eurovision Song Contest 2020 due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.

After much media speculation and public desire to see the girls return, RTS finally confirmed the news everyone had been waiting for in November 2020. Earlier this year RTS made the decision to hold an internal song selection for Hurricane. Now that entry is here and it’s time to get crazy for ‘Loco Loco’!

Go crazy for ‘Loco Loco’

After teasers in recent days, finally the eye of the Hurricane passes over Eurovision 2021 and ‘Loco Loco’ is here! With beats as big as their vocals and 80s perms, make no mistake, this is a Balkan banger ready to storm up 2021 with the best Serbian party of your life!

This year the Balkan trio finally get their chance to perform together in Rotterdam for Serbia. Formed in 2017 the band consists of main vocalist, Sanja Vučić, who competed for Serbia in 2016 as part of ZAA with ‘Goodbye (Shelter)‘. As well as lead singers, Ivana Nikolić and Ksenija Knežević – the latter being the daughter of Knez, for whom she was backing vocalist for his Montenegrin entry in 2015 ‘Adio‘.

Meet The Team

Together, Nemanja Antonić and Darko Dimitrov have produced ‘Loco Loco’, with Hurricane member Sanja Vučić credited as the sole songwriter. Of course producer Nemanja was the composer of last year’s entry for Hurricane, ‘Hasta La Vista’. Meanwhile Darko Dimitrov is a popular music producer in the Balkan region. With credits for many Eurovision entries such as: North Macedonia (2006, 2013, 2014, 2018, 2019), Albania (2015), and Serbia (2018).

Meanwhile at the contest itself the trio will be joined by three backing singers to complete the maximum six allowed on stage. These are Jelena Pajić, who was a backing vocalist with Ksenija on ‘Adio’ and provided backing for Serbia’s 2017 entry ‘In Too Deep‘. Also part of the delegation is Mladen Lukic from Balkanika, who along with Sanja Ilić performed ‘Nova Deca‘ for Serbia in 2018. He also performed backing vocals for Nevena Božović’ 2019 entry ‘Kruna‘. Lastly is Olga Popović, who also provided backing vocals for ‘Kruna’, as well as the 2012 entry ‘Nije Ljubav Stvar‘.

Seeing through the eye of the storm

The concept we are presenting to Europe this year is a Eurovision song, but not only that – the song is club and modern, ready for radio stations across Europe. Nemanja made incredible Eurovision elements, and that’s good, the emphasis is on singing and on the playing, which means that the song meets the criteria of both the audience and the expert jury.

Working on a song like this is a project that is done in stages, and that is the essence of the whole team work. The group ‘Hurricane’ is expected to have a certain format, which we will realize, but with the idea to leave an even better impression and an even more hit song.

Serbia in the Eurovision Song Contest

Previously Serbia had competed as part of one-time winning nation Yugoslavia, and then later as Serbia & Montenegro. However it was not until 2007 when Serbia made their debut as an independent nation. Marija Šerifović was selected as Serbia’s first Eurovision entrant, with ‘Moltiva‘. After winning the semi-final with 298 points, Serbia managed to win the whole contest, scoring 268 points in the final.

Following a successful first year, Serbia placed 6th on home soil in 2008. Yet just a year later in 2009, they failed to make the final for the first time. Since then, Serbia have managed one more top three placing – in 2012. Željko Joksimović, who had already been a Eurovision runner-up in 2004 for Serbia & Montenegro, finished 3rd with ‘Nije ljubav stvar‘.
