THIS WEEK: 🇨🇾🇩🇪🇮🇪 Three internal selections coming your way

What do Cyprus, Germany and Ireland have in store?

Oh my God! It’s not even March, but we’re in for an absolute stomper of a week here. Three countries will be revealing their entries for the Eurovision Song Contest 2021. It was originally four, but San Marino have moved their reveal to March 8th… So maybe a bit less of a stomper now, but loads of fun nonetheless. Let’s have a look at what Cyprus, Germany and Ireland have in store for us!

🇨🇾 Cyprus: Elena Tsagrinou – El Diablo

What: Elena Tsagrinou will release El Diablo
When: Wednesday, 24th February at 15:30 CET
Where: CyBC’s radio show ‘Happy Hour’, listen here

Representing Cyprus in the upcoming Eurovision Song Contest is 26-year old Elena Tsagrinou. The former lead singer of OtherView will be representing the island nation with El Diablo. With the title, it at least seems as if Cyprus are picking up on their successful formula of an established artist performing a pop song with Spanish and/or Latin influences. We know that the styling will be on point. A few weeks ago, CyBC announced Celia Kritharioti as stylist for Elena.

Elena Tsagrinou’s song has been written by a couple of Eurovision veterans: Thomas Stengaard, Oxa, Laurell Barker and Jimmy Thornfeldt. Stengaard already has a Eurovision victory to his name, as the composer behind Emmelie de Forest’s Only Teardrops. However, he also has a last place, namely Sister, the German 2019 entry. Laurell Barker has been everywhere in Eurovision circles recently. Back in 2019, she wrote Bigger Than Us, Sister and She Got Me for the Eurovision final. Thornfeldt and Oxa will be debuting as songwriters for Eurovision.

CyBC will spread out the release of El Diablo over a couple of days. During the radio show Happy Hour, which you can listen to here, the song will be played live for the first time. The show starts at 15:30 CET. From 17:00 CET onwards, the official video will be available on the website of Panik Records. If, however, you were hoping to stream it, you’ll have to wait until Sunday, 18:00 CET as that’s when CyBC and Panik will make Elena Tsagrinou’s entry available for streaming.

🇩🇪 Germany: Jendrik’s song reveal

What: Jendrik will release his Eurovision effort
When: Thursday, 25th February at noon
Where: Streaming platforms

On Thursday, it’s time for our second release of the week. Germany’s Jendrik Sigwart will reveal his entry for Rotterdam. The 26-year old from Hamburg has not given us a lot of information on his song. However, he has been dropping a couple of hints on social media.

What we do know is that Jendrik, who was selected after an extensive process, will do his best to give us the fun Eurovision also contains. Judging by his silver ukelele and his love for seagulls, we’re not going to get a thirteen a dozen ballad from Germany this year. Besides the ukelele, we’ve also seen a middle finger suit as part of his preparations. This will be interesting…

On Instagram, Jendrik has confirmed that his song will drop at noon on Thursday. Six hours later, the official video will be published on YouTube.

🇮🇪 Ireland: Lesley Roy – Maps

What: Lesley Roy will reveal her song Maps
When: Friday, 26th February
Where: TBC

After her 2020 Eurovision adventure, Lesley Roy is set to finally take to the Eurovision stage this May. On Friday, 26th February, the Irish singer-songwriter will release her Eurovision entry Maps.

According to Michael Kealy, Head of Delegation for Ireland at Eurovision, Maps will be “every bit as catchy” as her Lesley’s 2020 entry Story of my Life. The songwriters are however different this time around. Lesley Roy herself has collaborated on the songwriting as well, with the other songwriters being Philip Strand, Normandie, Deepend, Emelie Eriksson and She Got Me producer Lukas Hällgren: An all Swedish team for Ireland!

Are you excited for these internal selections? Which songs are you looking forward to?
