I have a strange liking for Blas Cantó, more than other Eurovision pop singers his songs have nice uplifting feelings, good production and passionate vocals. ‘Memoria’ as far as that goes is competent and enjoyable to listen to, it has a few nice vocal shifts to hold my attention, and a midtempo with good pulsating beats. It is a good song. However, that’s just it, it suffers from the same problem that ‘Universo’ did and isn’t as uplifting as that one. It’ll likely be lost in a field of well-produced songs as it just doesn’t do enough to stand out.

I liked ‘Universo’ a lot so my expectations for Blas Canto’s new songs were quite high. ‘Memoria’ is an enjoyable pop song for me. It has a rather standard build up, but it doesn’t bother me as the rhythm and melody appeal to me. The song could end up being really catchy, especially the chorus. Blas Canto has a rather high vocal pitch, which might make him stand out inbetween other solo male artists in Eurovision 2021. I cross y fingers for Spain to achieve a good result. The past few years have been quite unlucky for them and I feel sorry for that. Who wouldn’t love to travel to Malaga or Barcelona one day?

Blas Cantó, take a bow! “Universo” was not generally likes last year. To return and, for my taste, deliver two very competent, capable and interesting songs is an achievement. “Memoria” is the midtempo effort that would typically launch a second album, to show the established instead of the breakthrough name, but I am so on board with this. It’s catchy and his vocal tone, especially in the falsetto, is a delight to listen to. I wonder how they’ll stage this, but I’ll bop along to this and it’s been a while since Spain got me to do that!

Maria

As Universo wasn’t a big deal for me at all (sorry, fans!), Memoria covers and improves my last year’s impression very much. Great vocals, catchy music and I guess there’s only a beautiful staging left for this! It’s something more mature and pleasant so far but still it’s not a typical ballad that’s why it stands out for me. And I didn’t need to relisten several times to make it grow for me, I started to like it a lot immediately. That’s a good sign, hopefully. Overall Blas Cantó did a marvelous job this year and I hope this song would help him to reach higher ranking for Spain if it would be picked.
