🇮🇹 Sanremo 2021: Night 1 review

The most famous Italian music festival Sanremo 2021 has finally started on March 2nd! It’s been a long and various show, so let’s take a brief look at it!

The first night of Sanremo Music Festival: March 2nd, 20:30 – 1:30 CET

Hosts

Amadeus and Fiorello were the main hosts of the show. They were also joined by the co-hosts Matilda Di Angelis and Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

Guests

  • Diodato: the Sanremo 2020 winner decided not to take part in the competition once again this year, however, he came as a guest artist and performed the last year winning entry “Fai Rumore” and his other songs.
  • Loredana Bertè: the super guest of tonight show performed a medley of her famous songs along with the latest single.
  • Achille Lauro: the Sanremo 2019 and 2020 participant came back as a guest artist as well
  • Alessia Bonari: the nurse who became famous thanks to her photo in social media after a working shift in a hospital. Alessia contributed a lot during the pandemic.
  • The State Police band with Ol’ga Zakharova and Stefano Di Battista: altogether they performed Tango argentino and Como una cabeza right after all the participants performed their entries.

Participants

The Nuove Proposte (Newcomers) performances opened the show tonight. First 4 artists had a chance to perform, afterwards 2 of them were qualified to the semi-final. The participants list is below:

  • Gaudiano – Polvere Da Sparo (qualified to the semi-final)
  • Elena Faggi – Che Ne So
  • Avincola – Goal!
  • Folcast – Scopriti (qualified to the semi-final)

The show proceeded according to an actual line-up of the Campioni (Champions/Big Artists) section as follows:

  • Arisa – Potevi fare di più (You could have done more)
  • Aiello – Ora (Now)
  • Colapesce e Dimartino – Musica leggerissima (Very light music)
  • Francesca Michielin e Fedez – Chiamami per nome (Call me by name)
  • Max Gazzè e Trifluoperazina Monstery Band – Il farmacista (The pharmacist)
  • Noemi – Glicine (Wisteria)
  • Madame – Voce (Voice)
  • Måneskin – Zitti e buoni (Silent and good)
  • Ghemon – Momento perfetto (Perfect moment)
  • Coma_Cose – Fiamme negli occhi (Flames in the eyes)
  • Annalisa – Dieci (Ten)
  • Francesco Renga – Quando trovo te (When I find you)
  • Fasma – Parlami (Talk to me)

Irama and Noemi had to switch their performance days due to one of Irama’s team members who tested positive for coronavirus.

Results

The first night means it’s time for the Demoscopic jury (A jury selected by RAI that represents the Italian population) to vote. The final placement based on their rankings is below:

  1. Annalisa – Dieci (Ten)
  2. Noemi – Glicine (Wisteria)
  3. Fasma – Parlami (Talk to me)
  4. Francesca Michielin e Fedez – Chiamami per nome (Call me by name)
  5. Francesco Renga – Quando trovo te (When I find you)
  6. Arisa – Potevi fare di più (You could have done more)
  7. Måneskin – Zitti e buoni (Silent and good)
  8. Max Gazzè e Trifluoperazina Monstery Band – Il farmacista (The pharmacist)
  9. Colapesce e Dimartino – Musica leggerissima (Very light music)
  10. Coma_Cose – Fiamme negli occhi (Flames in the eyes)
  11. Madame – Voce (Voice)

What’s next?

The second night will take place on March 3rd at 20:30 – 1:30 CET.

The concept is similar to the first night. Another 4 Nuove Proposte section participants and another 13 Campioni section participants will perform their entries for the first time. However, the co-hosts and guests will mostly change.
