🇷🇴 Roxen releases “Amnesia” for Eurovision 2021

You won’t forget Amnesia in a hurry

Today, Roxen released her Eurovision 2021 entry Amnesia. This was released on behalf of TVR, the broadcaster responsible for the Romanian participation in the Eurovision Song Contest. The music video will premiere later today, but thanks to Spotify, the song has been released already.

Roxen at Eurovision 2020 and beyond

Roxen was internally selected in 2020 to represent Romania. Broadcaster TVR organised a five song national final where they chose the song Alcohol You. As we all know, the contest was cancelled due to the Covid_19 pandemic. Soon after, TVR and their record label parter Global Records stood by Roxen for the subsequent 2021 contest last March. With Romanian head of delegation Liana Stanciu having this to say:

TVR waited for the official confirmation from organisers regarding the possibility to support the artist already selected for this year’s competition, then discussed the current situation with Global Records and reached the decision to maintain Roxen as Romania’s representative at ESC2021. Under the current complicated circumstances, we will put to good use the resources invested for organising the 2020 National Selection and we will also honour the vote of confidence that Roxen has already received.

The journey toward Amnesia

After TVR selected Roxen to represent Romania, they adopted a slogan. This slogan became #ealtceva (it’s something different) to find their 2021 entry. A jury formed by the broadcaster TVR selected Amnesia for Roxen. Roxen recorded several songs. She then sent several demo versions to the jury.

TVR made the decision not to hold a traditional national final with budgetary constraints, but also with the rules of social distancing, in mind. Roxen was in good spirits, having said this about her 2021 journey:

I really think our Eurovision slogan fits perfectly with the whole context. I had a completely atypical year, a lot of challenges and a competition which stretched to almost two years. But in the end, what matters the most is to be healthy so we can see each other again. I am also looking forward to finding out which song I will represent Romania with this year at Eurovision. Whatever it is, I hope you like it and enjoy it. I can’t wait to start the journey back to Rotterdam, recharged with the best energy.

How to listen to Amnesia
