🇦🇲 Armenia withdraws from Eurovision 2021

40 countries in Rotterdam

Today it was announced that Armenia won’t be taking part at the Eurovision Song Contest 2021 in Rotterdam.

Armenia won’t take part in the 2021 contest, making the total number of participating countries 40.

After careful and detailed discussions, the Public Television Company of Armenia has decided to withdraw from the Eurovision Song Contest 2021, considering the latest events, the shortness of production time as well as other objective reasons that make the proper participation of Armenia at ESC 2021 impossible.

The broadcaster AMPTV

Last year Armenia was set to compete at the Junior Eurovision Song Contest, but also withdrew from the competition just weeks before the contest took place. This came due to the introduction of martial law in the region as a result of the ongoing conflict.

Athena Manoukian was set to represent Armenia at the Eurovision Song Contest 2020 with the song “Chains on You”. After the 2020 contest was cancelled, it was uncertain if AMPTV would give Athena a second chance in 2021.

This is the second time Armenia won’t be taking part in the contest after debuting in 2006. In 2012 the country withdrew from the contest when it took place in the capital of Azerbaijan, Baku.

Armenia was set to compete in the second semifinal of the 2021 contest on May 20th. Now the two semifinals are even with 17 countries competing in both of them.
