James Newman is returning to represent the United Kingdom at Eurovision, after he was selected as the country’s representative in 2020 as well. He was set to sing “My Last Breath” at the contest, before it was cancelled due the COVID-19 pandemic.

In an interview with BBC Newsbeat, James said that his 2021 entry “Embers” will be “positive and upbeat”.

I feel like everyone wants a party and to have some fun so when I was writing, that’s what I had in my head. I wanted something people can dance to, even if it’s just in their kitchen.

The BBC has renewed the collaboration between BBC Studios and music company BMG for this year’s contest. The song will be released and published by BMG, and BBC Studios will once again produce the BBC’s coverage of the Eurovision Song Contest.
