🇮🇹 Måneskin’s “Zitti e buoni” goes Platinum in Italy

"Zitti e buoni" is the seventh consecutive Italian Eurovision entry to go Platinum in Italy

Last month, Måneskin won the 71st edition of Festival di Sanremo. Shortly after, they confirmed that they are going to Eurovision! Due to their song being over the 3-minute limit, they had to release an edit for the contest. Following their breakthrough, they have released a new album and received a Platinum certification for the song.

With the major and enduring popularity of Sanremo in Italy and is growing popularity abroad, it is little surprise that many acts from this year’s edition have been enjoying success. Måneskin’s “Zitti e buoni” has now reached a Platinum certification in Italy, following in the footsteps of previous Sanremo winners Diodato, Mahmood, Ermal and Fabrizio, and Francesco Gabbani. The certification means they have sold over 70,000 copies of the song domestically. The song has over 15 million streams on Spotify alone.

Following the momentum of their Sanremo victory, the band released their sophomore album Teatro d’ira: Vol. 1 on March 19. Their success hasn’t been limited to their native Italy, however. Måneskin also entered Billboard’s Breakthrough chart last month, joining fellow Sanremo 2021 entrants Francesca Michielin & Fedez, Colapesce & Dimartino and Madame.

About Måneskin

Måneskin is a 4-piece rock band hailing from Rome, consisting of vocalist Damiano David, bassist Victoria De Angelis, guitarist Thomas Raggi, and drummer Ethan Torchio. The band met in high school and made their breakthrough after coming second in the Italian X Factor back in 2017.

This month they won Festival di Sanremo with an impressive 53.5% of the vote in the superfinal, beating out still competition from two former Italian Eurovision representatives Francesca Michelin (2016) and Ermal Meta (2018).

Since their win, “Zitti e buoni has sold 35,000 copies across Italy, granting them Gold certification. Other Sanremo 2021 entries to reach this milestone were “Chiamami per nome” by Francesca Michielin and Fedez, “Voce” by Madame and “Musica leggerissima” by Colapesce and Dimartino.

As a member of the Big 5, Italy are automatically in the final on May 22nd. Italy will also vote in the first semifinal, on May 18th, along with Germany and host nation The Netherlands.
