Het Grote Songfestivalfeest cancelled due to lockdown in The Netherlands?

With the date fast approaching, fans all over Europe and particularly in The Netherlands were excited about the upcoming concert ‘Het Grote Songfestivalfeest’. However, recent developments surrounding the COVID-19 situations in The Netherlands have led to a lockdown which will last at least 3 weeks from today. This means that the concert, taking place on December 9, will most likely be cancelled.

Events in lockdown

The COVID-19 cases in The Netherlands have recently increased at an alarming rate, causing hospitals to be full with people who need treatment. Because of this, the Dutch government had already implemented a minor lockdown, with some regulations that affected events, but nothing on a larger scale. In the case of concerts such as Het Grote Songfestivalfeest, they were only allowed to happen if all attendees could be seated and showed a valid QR code of vaccination, recovery, or a negative test.

However, the new regulations have become much stricter. Events such as concerts and theater are still allowed to take place, but with rules that may be hard to follow for a large event like Het Grote Songfestivalfeest: all theaters and venues close at 17:00, and will still have to provide seating at 1.5 meters distance at the event. The organizers of the event posted the following message regarding the continuation of the concert:

As you will understand, the newly announced government regulations have some pretty significant consequences for us. We will inform you guys after the weekend about these consequences and a possible new planning. We hope for your understanding.

This implies that the concert is not cancelled yet. However, following the regulations would mean that it would take place before 17:00, with safe seating as well. While nothing is concluded yet, the most likely scenario is that the event will either be cancelled or postponed to a later date.
