🇮🇱 X Factor Israel to select Eurovision 2022 artist?

It is being rumoured that Israel's 2022 artist will be chosen with the help of Netta and Simon Cowell

Last month, it was revealed that X Factor Israel will be launching the fourth series of X Factor Israel this year. In addition, Eurovision 2018 winner Netta Barzilai will be joining Simon Cowell on the panel. According to Israeli media, this will be the method to select Israel’s Eurovision 2022 artist, replacing Hakokhav Haba.

According to Israeli site ice.co.il, one of the requirements for the tender of the series, eventually won by Network 13, was that the show would be used to select Israel’s Eurovision 2022 entrant. The other bid was from Keshet 12, who had previously been the channel that oversaw the selection of Israel’s entrants since 2015.

Back in February, Israeli broadcaster Kan announced that they had began preparations for their Eurovision 2022 selection. This made Israel the first country to confirm their intention to take part in next year’s contest. It was alleged from earlier this year that the selection would be externally-held, likely either HaKokhav Haba or The X Factor Israel.

About X Factor Israel

The Israeli verson of the multinational franchise has aired previously three times. Despite the first and second series airing in 2013-2014 and 2015, the third series aired in 2018. All series so far have been hosted by Bar Rafaeli who also cohosted the Eurovision Song Contest 2019 in Tel-Aviv.

The third series was won by Eden Alene who went on to also win Hakokhav Haba in 2020. She, of course represented Israel in 2020 after winning with the song “Feker Libi”, unfortunately she couldn’t represent Israel in 2020 due to the Covid_19 pandemic. However Israel selected Eden for 2021 and will sing “Set Me Free” after a public song selection process.

So far, the judging panel will consist of Simon Cowell, who expressed his excitement at what Israel’s edition of the franchise will offer, Israeli singer Aviv Geffen and Eurovision 2018 winner Netta.
