Albania to make decision regarding Junior Eurovision 2021 in June

RTSH will make their choice after Eurovision

Albanian broadcaster RTSH have announced that they will make their final decision regarding their participation in Junior Eurovision 2021 in June. Like many other countries, Albania withdrew from last year’s Junior Eurovision Song Contest due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

This year’s Junior Eurovision Song Contest is set to be held in France on 28th November. Albania last participated in the contest in 2019, when Isea Çili finished in 17th place with her song “Mikja ime femijeri”.

Decision coming after Eurovision

Speaking to Eurofestivales, RTSH’s International Relations department confirmed that a decision regarding whether they will participate at Junior Eurovision 2021 will be made after the main Eurovision contest in May. Anxhela Peristeri is representing Albania at the main contest with the song “Karma”, as she hopes to be the third Albanian act in a row to make the final.

The decision will be dependent on the situation of the Covid-19 pandemic in June. Last year, the broadcaster said that they didn’t want to put a participant at risk even with the new format that saw countries pre-record their videos, instead of sing live in Warsaw.

Though the host city is yet to be confirmed, we do know that the contest will be held in France after they won last year’s contest with Valentina’s “J’imagine”. The contest is set to be held on 28th November.

So far, seven countries have revealed their intentions to take part in this year’s contest:

Last year, twelve countries took part in the contest with many countries withdrawing from 2019.

Albania at the Junior Eurovision Song Contest

Albania entered the Junior Eurovision Song Contest in 2012 and participated 6 times since then. The best result for the country to date is 5th place reached by Mishela Rapo with the song “Dambaje” in 2015.

In 2019, Isea Çili represented Albania with the song “Mikja ime fëmijëri” and came 17th.
