🇳🇱 Eurovision: Europe Shine a Light nominated for Rockie Award

It faces competition from the likes of Top Gear and Famalam

With Eurovision cancelled last year, organisers planned a variety of alternative programming – including Eurovision: Europe Shine a Light. A year on, the replacement show, which was held on 16th May, has been recognised for its success and nominated for Best Comedy & Variety Show at the Rockie Awards.

The Rockie Awards were set up as part of the Banff World Television Festival in 1980 with the intention to recognise excellence in global television. This year’s award winners will be announced in a ceremony held in Alberta, Canada in June. Eurovision: Europe Shine a Light has been nominated for the award alongside four other shows from both the UK and Canada.

Tough competition for Eurovision

Eurovision’s replacement show, which was held in Hilversum, has been nominated in the Comedy & Variety category. The nominees are:

Eurovision: Europe Shine a Light reached over 70 million viewers worldwide including 2.4 million viewers in the UK, 2.4 million viewers in the Netherlands and over 3 million viewers in Italy. The show was also streamed live on YouTube, where it has been watched over 1.8 million times since it was aired.

This year’s Rockie Awards will be held on 15th June at 3pm EST (9pm CEST). We will have to wait and see if Europe Shine a Light manages to scoop the prestigious award!
