What happens when you combine RuPaul’s Drag Race and The Masked Singer? It’s Make Up Your Mind – a new show on Dutch channel RTL 4. Eurovision 2021 hosts Nikkie de Jager and Edsilia Rombley are set to feature in the show’s panel, producer Herriemakers reported.
Who is the celebrity in drag?
Make Up Your Mind will be a one off show. RTL4 will broadcast the show on 15th May this year. The show is a combination of RuPaul’s Drag Race and The Masked Singer. During the show, seven well-known Dutch male celebrities will transform themselves into drag queens. None of these celebrities are famous for being drag queens, but are well-known in other areas. The idea of the show dates back to a parody show of last year, where chef Herman den Blijker and TV hosts Robert ten Brink and Beau van Erven Dorens suddenly appeared as drag queens.
Each of the celebrities will perform in drag during Make Up Your Mind. Professional drag queens will support the celebrities to make sure they’re ready for a show. In several rounds, a professional jury will eliminate one of the queens. Jury president will be Miss Envy Peru, the winner of the first ever season of RuPaul’s Drag Race Holland. Carlo Boszhard will host the show.
Edsilia Rombley versus Nikkie de Jager
Once a famous drag queen faces elimination, it is up to two teams to guess who the celebrity is. This is where The Masked Singer element enters the show: The panel does not know who the drag queens are. The first team consists of Nikkie de Jager, who will receive support from Ruben Nicolai. The 27-year old make up artist from Uden has been appearing on television more and more and also featured as a jury member on RuPaul’s Drag Race Holland. Nicolai on the other hand is the host of The Masked Singer in the Netherlands.
The other team consists of Fred van Leer and Edsilia Rombley. Van Leer hosts RuPaul’s Drag Race Holland, but otherwise most famous for his work as a stylist. Edsilia Rombley hardly needs an introduction to Eurovision fans, as she represented the Netherlands twice. Back in 1998, she finished fourth at Eurovision with Hemel en aarde. Nine years later, she returned, but failed to qualify for the final with On Top Of The World.
Just a week after Make Up your Mind, both Edsilia Rombley and Nikkie de Jager will feature on national television again. They will be hosting the Eurovision Song Contest 2021 live from Rotterdam alongside Chantal Janzen and Jan Smit.
