The Netherlands and Montenegro reviewed

After seeing both Italy and Australia scoring rather well yesterday, it’s now time for two countries we sort of expect less from. They both currently fail to make the top twenty with bookmakers, but what do we think about them? It’s The Netherlands and Montenegro!
THE NETHERLANDS
Trijntje Oosterhuis – Walk Along
Nick: As a Trijntje fan, I was looking forward to this. I, contrary to many, think this is better than Birds – I absolutely love it. Can’t wait to see what the stage director does to this. Trijntje just needs to keep that hand in…
Score: 9.5/10
Ryan: It was easy to forget about this one as it was chosen so early in the season, however bringing it back into rotation hasn’t made me altogether unhappy: it’s a nice inoffensive pop tune that is a fun listen, I’m just not sure the viewing public will think the same.
Score: 6/10
Simon: Why aye aye aye? If you’ve no chorus to speak of you’d better have some deep and provoking lyrics. Oh dear.
Score: 3/10

Rinor: I really like the Dutch entry this year. The “why-y-y-y” gets a little annoying by the end, because it’s the only phrase that people remember from the song, which is sad, because the lyrics are quite nice as well. She’s an experienced singer so we will surely not be disappointed in May.
Score: 7.5/10
Dan: I loved this when it was first selected and whilst I still like it, I do tend to skip it at times when it comes on the iPod. It’s a nice innocent pop song but I think this could be doomed on stage.
Score: 6/10
Rodrigo: What’s not to like about this? Her voice is spectacular, really like the lyrics, the music is great, it’s catchy and the type of song that could chart left, right and centre. Glad to see the Dutch continuing to be committed to sending quality.
Score: 10/10

MONTENEGRO
Knez – Adio
Nick: Oh Zeljko, there goes your track record. Sure, a decent enough Balkan ballad, but that’s about it then. It doesn’t have any of the build of any of his previous attempts. Knez is a very ‘radio-friendly’ performer…
Score: 5/10
Ryan: This years Balkan ballad that unfortunately falls desperately short of the heady heights of Molitva, Lane moje and the many more stompers from the ex-Yugoslav countries we’ve come to know and love. I love Knez’s classic male Balkan vocals, but the song is perhaps not enough of a ballad for my liking?
Score: 6/10
Simon: Balkoballad by numbers, although a little more lively than Zeljko has written for himself at Eurovision. Will settle into mid-table obscurity I think.
Score: 5/10

Rinor: Montenegro is just playing safe this year, bringing pretty much the same entry as last year back. Yes, I will agree with everyone that it’s just another Joksimovic ballad, but I’m quite optimistic for it. It’s surely going to look the same on stage as Moj Svijet last year.
Score: 7.5/10
Dan: For the second year running, Montenegro are in my top 10. The only true Balkan folk song this year which will no doubt stand out and pick up points. These are the type of Eurovision entries I enjoy listening to, not overly produced or performed. Another great entry.
Score: 8/10
Rodrigo: I like this song. In fact, I’ve liked this song the 128678920 times that a Balkan country has sent it. He is a solid performer, but I somehow feel left wanting more. Like I only got foreplay but never really got laid.
Score: 5.5/10
