Now that all the songs have been released, we are able to review each and every one of them. Our honest and brutal reviews will keep you entertained until the rehearsals start on 30 April! We will also each give a score out of 10 for every entry, and create an ESCXTRA leaderboard of the entries!

Today we have reviews of the Romanian entry, ‘Goodbye’ by The Aliens The Humans, from Luke, Matt, Rigmo, Ryan, Wiv and Yassia. Let’s get started!

The Reviews

Luke

Are we entirely sure that these people are human? Or that they at least have functioning ears? Because how could any human create this song and think they’ve done a good job rather than hate themselves for inflicting this monstrosity on humanity? It goes absolutely nowhere, certainly not into my head since I forget it as soon as it ends. Goodbye indeed, Romania.

Matt

I can never remember the melody of this song. Only that it reminds me of the music that is played during health insurance adverts or an outro to your favourite 90’s TV show. Non-qualifier from the semi final I’m afraid.

Rigmo

It’s heartwarming seeing countries aspire to reach something new, even when they have achieved so much. Sure, you could just rest on your laurels and take it easy, but no, no Romania is determined to break new ground. Why go for the usual when you can try something new, something you have never done before. So with a brand new goal in mind, they couldn’t have asked for a better group than The Humans to make it a reality. THIS, this was finally going to be the be the year they break their qualification record. And I believe in them, I truly do. Their bravery brings a tear to my eye.

Ryan

After being so obsessed with “Royalty”, there’s immediately a tinge of sadness when listening to the Romanian entry. As time passes and I have more listens of “Goodbye”, I appreciate it more and more. The structure of the song reminds me of Demi Lovato’s wonderful “Don’t Forget” and while The Humans can never match up to Demi, this is still a respectable entry for Romania. However, I do think Romania’s 100% qualification record could finally be in real danger.

Wiv

This really sounds like someone came up with ideas for two songs, then didn’t manage to finish any of them. And instead just said; let’s put them together and make it one song! And it really doesn’t work very well for me. I like the chorus a lot, but the verses are just…there… It was still one of the better songs in the Romanian pre-selection, though. Which says a lot.

Yassia

Romania really surprised me this year! I like the song, as the message is great, its emotional and memorable. I believe that with a great show and a better dress of the singer this song can be in the top 10 this year. Let’s see if I’m right.
