🇮🇹 Italy win the Eurovision Song Contest 2021 with Måneskin

524 points for Zitti E Buoni, Barbara Pravi settles for silver

Måneskin have won the Eurovision Song Contest 2021 for Italy. The band won the contest in Rotterdam with a grand total of 524 points. Fellow Big Five member France finished as runners-up, with Barbara Pravi collecting 499 points. It is Italy’s first victory in 31 years, with their last victory dating back to Toto Cutugno in 1990.

Close voting hands Måneskin the win

The exciting voting segment of the Eurovision Song Contest 2021 reached a climax when Italy was pronounced the winner. Switzerland won the jury vote with 267 points, followed by France at 248 and Malta with 208 points. Finishing at the bottom there was the United Kingdom. James Newman failed to pick up a single point from the national juries.

As soon as the televote reveal started, there were shocks galore. The United Kingdom record the first ever double zero in the new voting system, which has been in place since 2016. James Newman received a standing ovation from the audience at Ahoy Rotterdam as a result. In a shocking turn of events, Spain, Germany and the Netherlands all finished with zero points in the televoting as well. That result shook the Eurovision world, as four of the six automatic qualifiers finished in the bottom four of the scoreboard.

It didn’t take long for the big televote hitters to emerge. Lithuania, fourteenth with the juries, gathered 165 televoting points. The Roop eventually turned out to have finished in seventh place with televoters. Soon after, Blind Channel from Finland received a whopping 218 televoting points. Their sixth place in the final, with fourth in televoting, is Finland’s second best result ever at Eurovision. Also scoring massively with televoters, finishing second there, was GO_A from Ukraine on 267 points.

At the end of voting, Italy received 318 televoting points, putting them in the lead with 524 points. France then received 251, falling short at 499 points. For the final shots, Gjon’s Tears from Switzerland knew he needed somewhat of a miracle to gather 258 points or more to overtake Italy and Måneskin. They however received 165, the same score as Lithuania, and placed third.
