🇪🇸 Blas Cantó’s song for Eurovision 2021 to be chosen by national final

TVE, the Spanish broadcaster, are set to organise a national final to choose the Eurovision 2021 song for Blas Cantó. Blas was internally selected to represent Spain at Eurovision 2020 with the song ‘Universo’. After the 2020 cancellation, TVE invited Blas to continue and represent Spain in 2021.

Eurovision-spain have reported that in a meeting of TVE, Blas’s team and Warner Music an agreement has been made to create a song selection for 2021. In the national final Blas will present ‘several’ songs, with the audience having a ‘fundamental role’ in choosing the song to represent Spain at the 2021 Eurovision Song Contest. Guest artists will also perform, including other artists from Warner Music such as Pastora Soler (Eurovision 2012) and Vanessa Martín.

TVE have yet to set the date for the selection, but it is expected to take place between January and February. The last time that Spain held a national final on an internally selected artist was in 2013, when El Sueño de Morfeo represented the country in Malmö with the song ‘Contigo hasta el final’ which placed 25th. However, they did use this method in 2012, with Pastora Soler where ‘Quedate Conmigo’ placed 10th in Baku.
