Maléna expresses interest in future Eurovision participation

"It's scary, but I'm gonna do it, I think."

Today, following the dress rehearsal for the first semi-final of Eurovision 2022, the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2022 press conference took place. Speaking as part of the panel, reigning JESC winner Maléna stated that she would like to represent Armenia at Eurovision in the future.

Earlier today, the official press conference for Junior Eurovision 2022 took place. On the panel was Maléna, alongside the Armenian Head of Delegation (David Tserunyan) and the Head of PR and Digital for ARMTV (Anna Ohanyan).

Maléna will feature in the first semi-final as a guest, as is tradition for the winners of Junior Eurovision. Reflecting on the experience from rehearsals, she shared that she would like to participate in Eurovision in the future.

Seeing Eurovision this year…I have a motivation to come to Eurovision again. So, I think, yes, I want to do it again. That’s a great experience. But of course the stage is very scary for me. I enter the stage, I see all these people and I’m shaking, even though I’m not performing. It’s scary, but I’m gonna do it, I think.

Maléna is currently 15 years old, but as of next year’s contest (May 23), she will be eligible to compete in the Eurovision Song Contest in accordance with EBU rules.

Junior Eurovision 2022 so far

Back in April, the EBU confirmed the contest will take place in the Karen Demirchyan Sports and Concerts Complex in Yerevan, Armenia on Sunday December 11.

ARMTV are planning for at least 18 participating countries in total. The 2021 edition featured 19 participating countries, reaching a total of 33 million viewers.

So far, the following countries have confirmed their intention to participate:

  • Armenia (host)
  • Bulgaria
  • France
  • Georgia
  • Ireland
  • Netherlands
  • Poland
  • Spain

Although Russia had previously confirmed their intention to participate, the exclusion of Russia from Eurovision 2022 and the suspension of EBU membership, leaves their Junior Eurovision future in question.
