Moldova will select their Eurovision representative for Eurovision Song Contest 2020 today. Ahead the final, the broadcaster TRM reported that Geta Burlacu is withdrawing for personal reasons.

Represented Moldova in 2008

Geta Burlacu was set to perform the song “Răspunde!” in tonight’s final. After her decision to withdraw, the final will include 19 songs.

We had too little time to include another competitor in the Final instead of Geta Burlacu. There are 19 participants in the National Finals.

Geta Burlacu represented Moldova at the Eurovision Song Contest 2008 with the song “A Century of Love”. She failed to qualify to the final after finishing 12th in the final.

Two former representatives still in

Even with Geta withdrawing, there are still two former Moldovan representatives taking part in the national selection tonight. Natalia Gordienko, who represented Moldova in 2006 will compete with the song “Prison”. The song is written by Dimitris Kontopoulos, Philipp Kirkorov and Sharon Vaughn, who are well-known among the Eurovision fans. Most recently the trio worked with Sergey Lazarev in 2019 and finished third with the song “Scream”.

Also taking part is Pasha Parfeny, who represented the country in 2012. He also composed Moldova’s entry the next year. This year he is aiming to represent the country with the song “My Wine“.

In addition, Denis Midone represented Moldova at the Junior Eurovision Song Contest in 2012. Tonight he is singing the song “Like a Champion” at the national final.
