Turin 2022🇵🇱 Poland

TVP delays Polish Eurovision entrant announcement to 15th January

Today (28th December), the broadcaster responsible for the Polish entry at the Eurovision Song Contest TVP has announced that they will unveil their act for Turin on the 15th January, this is later than the 2nd January previously stated by the broadcaster.

A little reminder of TVP’s 2022 journey so far.

Back in August, TVP Director Jacek Kurski confirmed that Poland will participate in Eurovision 2022, due to be hosted in Italy. Afterwards, the broadcaster has confirmed that their 2022 entry would be selected internally, with submissions now closed. The deadline for submissions was November 20.

The chosen act will be selected in a two-stage internal selection process. A jury comprising of five members will each select the top three acts to proceed to the second stage. However, the jury also reserves the right to add entries that were not submission via the open call. 3-15 acts will proceed to the second stage, with the remaining entries being judged on a 1-10 scale. The winner will be the song that receives the most points. In the event of a tie, the chairman of the committee will decide the winner.

TVP releases a statement.

TVP has issued a statement regarding the announcement and it states the following.

Due to the great interest in Polish preselections for the Eurovision Song Contest – ESC Turin 2022, we kindly inform you that we will announce the winner on January 15, 2022.

Poland at Eurovision 2021

Last year, TVP ran a two-stage national final Szansa na sukces in order to select their Eurovision 2020 entry. The Voice of Poland 10 winner Alicja Szemplińska went on to win the selection with “Empires”. She was due to perform in the first half of the second semi-final, prior to the cancellation of the contest.

In 2021, TVP opted to not re-select Alicja for Eurovision 2021. Instead, Rafał Brzozowski was internally-selected to represent Poland in Rotterdam with “The Ride”. He failed to qualify from the second semi-final, placing 14th with 35 points, marking Poland’s third consecutive non-qualification.
