During Dobro jutro Crna Goro, it was announced that singer-songwriter Vladana Vučinić will represent Montenegro at the Eurovision Song Contest 2022 in Turin. She is known for songs including “Kao Miris Kokosa” and “Bad Girls Need Love Too”.
Following several days of clues from the Montenegrin broadcaster, it was finally announced this morning that Vladana Vučinić will be heading to Turin in May to represent Montenegro, who return to the contest after a two-year break. Montenegro returned to an internal selection for this year, after using a national final in both 2018 and 2019.
Who is Vladana?
Born in Podgorica, Vladana Vučinić grew up in a musical family. Her grandfather, Boris Nizamovski, was Head of the Association of Stage Artists of Macedonia as well as manager of Macedonian group Magnifico. Vladana studied music at both primary and secondary level, before graduating in journalism from Montenegro’s State Faculty of Political Science.
She made her television debut in 2003 on a national karaoke show, before performing at the Budva Mediterranean Festival. She took part in Montevizija in both 2005 and 2006, as well as competing in the Sunčane Skale festival.
Releasing music under the mononym VLADANA, she has had singles including “Kao Miris Kokosa”, “Bad Girls Need Love Too” and “Sinner City”. Though she has not been on the music scene for several years, she has edited online fashion magazine Čiviluk.
Montenegro in the Eurovision Song Contest
Upon gaining independence in 2006, Montenegro applied to participate in the Eurovision Song Contest in 2007. Debut entrant Stevan Faddy failed to qualify from the 28 country semi final. Two further attempts in the late 2000s yielded the same result. Upon returning in 2012, Montenegro found greater fortune, qualifying in succession in both 2014 and 2015. Their best result came in 2015, where Knez came 13th with his song ‘Adio’.
Their latest entry came in 2019, where group D-Mol failed to qualify with their song ‘Heaven’. The country missed out on the 2020 and 2021 contests, but will return when the contest heads to Turin this year.
Shortly after the announcement, Ivan Maksimović, the Head of Entertainment at RTCG, confirmed that Montevizija will not be used to select the Montenegrin act for Eurovision 2022 due to financial constraints on the broadcaster and the uncertainty of the pandemic.
