The Netherlands have revealed their entry for the Eurovision Song Contest 2022. Singer, songwriter and rapper S10 will perform her entry De Diepte in Turin.

S10 in Dutch

Back in December, the broadcaster announced that S10 would be representing the Netherlands. S10, stage name of Stien den Hollander, is a rising star in the alternative scene of the country. Her music discusses personal and difficult topics, such as her own struggle with mental health. The video snippet released on Tuesday also shows S10 raiding a fridge and placing herself in it. Jeangu Macrooy described the entry as “a good sad song” in yesterday’s teaser with former Eurovision stars.

Stien den Hollander usually speaks of her own struggles with mental health in her songs. She has been diagnosed with bipolar disorder and has suffered from depression and auditory hallucinations in the past. Her material is always in Dutch, which is why it is no surprise that she will be doing the same for Turin. De Diepte (English: The depth) is completely in Dutch, marking the first entry in that language since Sieneke in 2010. Stein had some beautiful words to say about her upcoming entry:

It’s a tribute to the sadness and memories that you carry with you. Everyone experiences difficult times in their lives. That’s something we all have in common and I hope you will feel less alone when you listen to the song.

Yesterday, social media users spotted De diepte as a new entry on lyrics website Genius. The page was linked to the Eurovision album this morning, thus confirming it as the Dutch entry for the Eurovision Song Contest. The song eventually premiered on NPO Radio 2, YouTube and live in Koninklijk Theater Tuschinski in Amsterdam.
