Eurovision 2022 to be broadcast in 4K UHD

The first contest to be made available in Ultra High Definition

This year’s Eurovision Song Contest will be the first contest to be broadcast in 4K resolution, it has been announced.

ANSA news agency have confirmed that all three shows will be broadcast live on Rai’s free to air UHD channel, Rai 4K. The Italian broadcaster launched their 4K service in 2016 and were one of the first European broadcasters to offer a fully fetched channel solely dedicated to Ultra HD material.

“With this initiative, RAI confirms its technological leadership in the Italian television system and its role as a driving force for innovation,”

It is expected that the UHD feed will be open to all competing broadcasters who offer a 4K service. Alongside Rai, TVP (Poland) & NPO (Netherlands) also run a dedicated 4K channel. In the United Kingdom, the BBC offer live and on demand UHD content as part of its BBC iPlayer service.
