Rehearsal review

Stage presentation

We open with a shot of Marius Bear with dark purple lights behind him. The stage remains dark throughout the song, with a spotlight illuminating Marius from the back. It’s a very promising start, but falls a little flat towards the 2-minute mark. You know what’s happening and there’s no surprises left, asides from a few projections. However, it fits the style and theme of the song, and Marius seems comfortable on the stage.

Costumes and styling

He is wearing a leather jacket that is as dark as the backdrop itself. The focus is definitely on Marius, and he pulls off the look, though it does make me wonder if this is the best look for him, comfort-wise. He’s wearing eye-liner, which is a really nice touch to the performance.

Vocal quality

As expected, the vocals are as good as they are in the studio version. He knows what he’s doing and he’s doing a great job at it, which is why this could definitely be a favourite among the juries. It could also be a breath of fresh air for the viewers who enjoyed laid-back songs like this, especially delivered like this.

Overall impression

A little too dark, perhaps. However, it fits the theme of the song, but I expected more from a Sacha Jean-Baptiste staging. It’s very intimate and touching, but it becomes a little boring. The jacket is a fashion choice, but Marius does pull it off with his naturally charming stage presence. It gives me a lot of hope towards the beginning, but the end falls a little flat. It needs the vocals to make it stand out.
