🇳🇴 Jahn Teigen passes away at the age of 70

Norway's three-time Eurovision representative

Norway’s three-time Eurovision representative Jahn Teigen has passed away at the age of 70. Jahn Teigen represented Norway in 1978, 1982 and 1983.

Beloved artist with long career

Norwegian newspaper VG reports that Jahn Teigen’s manager Trond Lie sent this sad message in a press release. Jahn Teigen passed away on Monday night at Ystad hospital. He was 70-years-old.

Jahn Teigen started his career in 1960s with the group Enemies. The band Popol Vuh (later known as Popol Ace) gave him the first commercial success and later he also joined the comedy group Prima Vera.

He first took part in Eurovision Song Contest in 1978 with the song “Mil etter mil”. For the first time with the new voting system, the song didn’t receive any points. Despite not having success at the contest, it became a hit in Norway.

He returned to the contest in 1982 together with Anita Skorgan, who he later married. Their entry “Adieu” finished 12th in the final. Next year Jahn again participated as a solo artist, with Anita Skorgan providing backing vocals for him. The song “Do Re Mi” gave Jahn his best placing in the contest after finishing 9th.

Jahn participated in Norway’s Melodi Grand Prix several times more, but didn’t manage to win. His latest attempt was in 2005 with “My Heart Is My Home“. Most recently he performed at Melodi Grand Prix during the interval act in 2016.

ESCXTRA’s thoughts are with his friends and family at this difficult time.
