🇬🇷 Greece: ERT likely to internally-select Stefania’s 2021 entry

Stefania reportedly has a clear favourite of the tracks she has recorded

According to Eurovision Fun, Greek broadcaster ERT is highly likely to internally-select Stefania’s Eurovision 2021 entry. A public selection has been ruled out due to the ongoing pandemic. It is expected that there will be a formal announcement in the coming weeks.

As noted by the report, this would mark the fourth consecutive internal selection for the broadcaster. The last time Greece held a national final was the selection for Demy’s entry back in 2017.

Because Stefania lives in the Netherlands and ERT are based in Greece (obviously), travel restrictions have ruled out the possibility of a televised selection. An online selection has also been ruled out as the songs in contention are still in demo form. The report states that ‘The Dream Team’ do not want to release the songs early, as seen with Israel’s ongoing selection.

There are currently five songs in contention to be Stefania’s entry, with both Stefania and her artistic team having a clear favourite. Whether this will factor into the broadcaster’s decision is yet to be seen.

Stefania’s Eurovision journey

Stefania’s Eurovision journey began back in 2016, when she participated in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest as a member of the group Kisses. They represent The Netherlands in Valetta with the song “Kisses & Dancin’”, finishing eighth.

Stefania had been selected internally to represent Greece at Eurovision 2020 in Rotterdam. She had been due to perform “SUPERG!RL” in the first half of semi final 2 in May.

Back in March, Greek public broadcaster ERT released a press statement to address the news about the EBU’s decision to cancel this year’s contest. In the statement, the broadcaster expressed their intentions to continue their cooperation with Stefania for next year. In July, we learned that her entry was in development.
