🇷🇴 TVR to hold TV debate regarding Romania’s decline in results at Eurovision

Romania has had some very successful Eurovision entries since their debut in 1994, including two 3rd places courtesy of Luminița Anghel in 2005, and Paula Seling & Ovi in 2010. However, their success has recently declined, as they failed to reach the Grand Final after 2017. In order to find the key to their previous success, Romania’s broadcaster TVR is holding a debate regarding their Eurovision entries.

Structure of the debate

TVR will host the debate on Monday, July 5th. It is titled “Eurovision, pe şleau!”, which translates to “Eurovision, put bluntly!”. The main goal of the debate is to address topics regarding all things Romania and Eurovision, including the following questions:

  1. Why has the interest of Romanians towards Eurovision decreased?
  2. Why don’t Romania’s big artists participate in Eurovision?
  3. What are the solutions to improve the current situation?

The debate will include both well-known guests and performances, but there is also room for audience input. The public is encouraged to call the broadcaster and share their views and thoughts on the situation. Besides the public, the guests will include Horia Moculescu, Dan Manoliu, Dani Constantin, Nicola, Elena Cârstea, Andrei Partoş, Mugurel Vrabete, Andrei Tudor, Alin Dincă, and finally Alexandru Urucu (who is a Eurovision fan!). Guest performances include 2010 and 2014’s Paula Seling & Ovi, and 2018’s The Humans.

Aiming for a Top 10 finish in 2022

The debate will be hosted by Marina Almăşan. Almăşan is the former Head of Delegation for Romania, who was present when Romania’s “Playing With Fire” reached its 3rd place in 2010. When asked about her views on Romania in Eurovision, she explained that “the last years have brought much sorrow to the faces of the Romanian people who are interested in Eurovision.” She assumes that the debate will be heated, and maybe even include some “sparks”, but the main goal is to find both strong and weak points of the country in Eurovision- which hopefully will result in a Top 10 finish in 2022.

Romania’s last entry was “Amnesia” by ROXEN, which got 13th place in the First Semi-Final.
