From one European stage to another!

After representing Germany in the Eurovision Song Contest 2018 and achieving the country’s best result since the German victory in 2010, Michael Schulte will now perform as the lead artist for the Opening Ceremony of the European Athletics Championships 2018. The event will take place in Berlin, Germany, on August 6, marking the 24th edition of the event.

Michael Schulte and Eurovision

The German singer started his career in 2008, posting covers on YouTube. In 2012, he was one of the participants in “The Voice Germany” and ended in the third place of the talent show. Last February, he was announced as one of the six participants of “Unser Lied für Lissabon”, the German national final for Eurovision 2018. After winning both the televote and jury voting, he went to represent Germany in Lisbon with the song “You let me walk alone”. At the contest, he achieved once again a huge success after placing 4th with a total of 340 points. We are now looking forward to his performance at the Opening Ceremony of the European Athletics Championships 2018.

Germany at the Eurovision Song Contest

Germany debuted at the Eurovision Song Contest in its very first edition in 1956. Since then, the country has participated in every edition of the show, if we consider the German elimination in the audio-only pre-selection round in 1996. With 62 appearances in the contest, Germany has won it twice: in 1982 with Nicole and in 2010 with Lena Meyer-Landrut. In the past years, the country went through a phase of poor results, even placing last two years in a row, in 2015 and 2016. This year, Michael Schulte made Germany return to the good results, after achieving the first top 5 for the country since their last victory in 2010.
