The winner of the show is the one who handles most of the genres the best. Today NRK revealed the names of this year’s participants, and to the Eurovision/MGP insider there are quite a few familiar names. Eurovision artists No less than three former Eurovision artists are taking part; Aleksander Walmann, Didrik Solli Tangen and Benedicte Adrian. Aleksander gave Norway a top 10 finish just three weeks ago, performing “Grab the Moment” with JOWST in Kyiv. Didrik represented Norway with “My Heart is Yours”, finishing in a very disappointing 20th place on home ground in 2010. And who can forget “Lenge leve livet”, the Norwegian entry from 1984? Benedicte is the blond half of Dollie de Luxe, who gave Norway a 17th place, while “skiing” on stage. She …

Lena surges to iTunes #1 after emotional performance of ‘If I Wasn’t Your Daughter’ on Sing meinen Song

Yesterday, we wrote about If I Wasn’t Your Daughter, the brand new single release by 2010 Eurovision winner Lena. The acoustic version of the song is now available on all digital music platforms. However, since our previous article, the popularity of If I Wasn’t Your Daughter has surged substantially. This is due to a stunningly emotional performance by Lena on German music show Sing meinen Song aired just a few hours ago. A show all about the music Sing meinen Song is a show where several musicians from a variety of musical genres face the “great musical challenge” of singing each other’s hits. It all takes place in front of a “breathtaking backdrop” and in a “relaxed atmosphere”. Not only do the artists taking part sing each other’s hits. They also treat us to special performances of their very own songs. Lena did exactly that tonight, giving her first live TV performance of If I Wasn’t Your Daughter. Her fellow musicians and the watching audience were immediately wowed. Watch the must-see performance below! http://world.webclips.akamai.rtl.de/vod/videolounge09/59/555194_vsms_20170606_j67371_05_lena.mp4 The public are full of praise for Lena Without doubt this is one of the most personal songs Lena has ever released. Australia’s Guy Sebastian: It’s time for all of TV’s music talent shows to be “rested”

Australia’s Guy Sebastian: It’s time for all of TV’s music talent shows to be “rested”

Guy Sebastian is one of Australia’s biggest stars, and also one of reality TV’s biggest success stories. He won the first season of Australian Idol back in 2003. He has since released eight albums, all reaching the top 10 in Australia. In addition, a remarkable 21 of his singles as lead artist reached the top 20 of his national singles chart. Furthermore, some of those singles have achieved international success. Guy Sebastian: It’s time for talent shows to be rested 2012’s Battle Scars charted in Scandinavia and the United States. Tonight Again charted all over Europe in 2015 following Guy’s participation in the Eurovision Song Contest. Of course, Guy was Australia’s first ever Eurovision entrant when they were invited to Vienna to celebrate the contest’s 60th anniversary. So it may come as a surprise that today, Guy has called for television talent shows to be “rested” considering the huge career platform one was for himself. A key problem: the “recycling” of talent In an interview with KIIS FM in Australia, Guy explained that the TV talent show market had become too saturated. He believes the proof of this is that the various shows, such as The X Factor and The Voice, are now “recycling” …

Edward af Sillén rewrites ‘Love Love Peace Peace’ for 2017

Edward af Sillén rewrites ‘Love Love Peace Peace’ for 2017

Last year, Jamala won the Eurovision Song Contest. But after the competing entries had finished, it was Love Love Peace Peace that took the fans (and many other viewers) by storm. The lyricist and Swedish commentator in Eurovision, Edward af Sillén, has rewritten those lyrics for 2017… Let’s see which entries featured! Twerks in a monkey suit Surely we can all imagine which elements from the 2017 contest would feature in this year’s Eurovision parody. Who can forget Azerbaijan’s man on a ladder… with a horse head? Or the Moldovan wedding dresses? Obviously, both of those got a good mention, as well as Italy’s monkey. The lyrics feature twerking. We missed the twerking, but we certainly saw the monkey dance. Oh, and he just had to mention the Ukrainian ass during Jamala’s interval. Nothing says winner like…   “Nothing says winner like a violin”, said Måns during the 2016 performance. Few violins were seen during this year’s final, but the one we did see, finished in third. As did the saxophone, which Edward now told us to bring to create the perfect Eurovision winner. Edward’s full post can be seen here, on his Facebook page. We’d like to know what you would …

Salvador Sobral Labelled An “Inept Idiot” After Comments on the Manchester Arena Bombing

During Sobral’s Eurovision experience, and after, he has been known for his controversial comments. During dress rehearsals for the grand final, he wore a sweatshirt with the logo “S.O.S. Refugees” on the front, and was almost disqualified for it. Now, he has commented on the Manchester Arena Bombing last week, and it has not been received well by some! Uh oh. What did he say? In response to the Manchester Arena Bombing, Sobral said in an interview with RTP: “A lot of importance is given only to certain attacks, and I would like to hear about those attacks that aren’t reported about. I know that it’s very difficult, almost impossible, especially with social media, since it gives a lot of importance to them. It would be good if there was an agreement in the media about the reporting of terror attacks.” His comments have generated some criticism, especially from Portuguese actress, Maria Vieira, who commented on Facebook: “This guy is an inept idiot who does not say what he knows or knows what he says!” She posted the comment on an article regarding Sobral’s comments, but Vieira has since deleted her comment. Vieira is known for being very vocal with …

Eurovision and MGP artists to cover each other’s songs on TV2 this fall

Eurovision and MGP artists to cover each other’s songs on TV2 this fall

“Hver gang vi møtes” (Every time we meet) is one of the most popular shows on Norwegian tv. It is a concept where seven artists meet once a week over the course of a couple of months to cover each other’s songs. Every week “belongs” to one of the artists, and all the others perform their own version of one of his/her songs. This coming season will be the seventh in the series. Previous editions In previous seasons we have met artists such as Alexander Rybak, Anita Skorgan, Wenche Myhre, Åse Kleveland and Margaret Berger. Some of the covers have turned into huge hits in Norway, while others have been received less kindly. Last year we saw Margaret Berger and Åse Kleveland do rather alternative cover versions of each other’s MGP/ESC entries. Listen to Margaret’s cover of “Gi meg fri” (Set Me Free), Åse’s other entry from Melodi Grand Prix 1966, here. This year’s participants TV2 never comment on names until later in the summer, but several Norwegian entertainment sites have revealed six names today. This means there is one name still to come, as there are always seven artists taking part. Since the names haven’t been officially confimed, we …
Caro Emerald would consider Eurovision

Caro Emerald would consider Eurovision

With the Eurovision Song Contest 2017 behind us, some countries have already turned their focus to next year. One of those is The Netherlands, where several acts are already lining up for a possible Eurovision participation in Portugal next year. In a recent interview, Caro Emerald has stated she would seriously consider Eurovision. Never been asked In the past few years, Avrotros have tried to get as many of the country’s big stars interested in doing Eurovision, chatting with every one of these to see if they would consider doing Eurovision. It resulted in Ilse DeLange and Trijntje Oosterhuis travelling to Eurovision, as well as positive reactions from many others. Remarkable in this story is that Avrotros has, according to herself, never sought contact with Caro Emerald. The 36 year old is undoubtedly one of the most well-known Dutch acts abroad, so it’s at least odd that Avrotros have never even seemed to consider her before. Would she dare? In the interview, Emerald has stated she would seriously consider going to Eurovision if the broadcaster would ask her. That however doesn’t mean that she’d always say yes, as she isn’t sure she’d actually dare to go to Eurovision. The singer …
