The final artist to rehearse today is IMRI from Israel. We have just watched his first run through of I Feel Alive live on screen and here is our initial reaction. Summary in a sentence IMRI dances his way through I Feel Alive with energy and good vocals and is definitely a perfect closing to the show. Staging The LED backdrop started black and white with the use of red becoming stronger as the song progresses. There are two dancers who begin dancing from the second verse and three backing singers that join the dance for the middle 8. Overall a very choreographed and effective performance. Vocals IMRI was very good vocally, there were a couple of poor notes but that is natural for a first rehearsal especially considering …

The latest artist to rehearse is Koit Toome & Laura from Estonia. We have just watched their first run through of Verona live on screen and here is our initial reaction. Summary in a sentence Estonia have taken their national final staging and improved it with effective use of the LED floor. This should have wide appeal! Staging The LED backdrops are black and white, similar to that in the national final. We think the Koit and Laura “holograms” from the national final while the other is singing appears towards the beginning. Koit and Laura do not look at each other until the very end where they smile massively. In addition, Koit’s entrance to the stage is accompanied by a light up pathway on the LED floor, and the LED …

Ralph Siegel talks about Eurovision: “It was originally called Feeling of the Night”

Eurovision royalty, Ralph Siegel, made some time to talk to us on the live stream this afternoon. We will upload the full video clip later today but here are some of the key quotes from Mr. Siegel about his Eurovision career. Ralph Siegel on San Marino and Valentina On the moment that “Maybe” was announced as a finalist in 2014: “The first time San Marino qualified, we fell in each others arms” On the creation of “Spirit of the Night”: “I said to Valentina – come here, if you like it, you do it, if you don’t then you don’t. They came together in Munich and it was the love of two musicians. They are two stage people, not young any more but they give all the power.” “We changed the lyrics three or four times and we worked with the two other writers, a choir of singers, and we had two or three finished versions before Jimmie and Valentina even heard it.” On the support for “Spirit of the Night”: “San Marino is such a little country and when you see 35,000 people and more than 2m hits, this is just unbelievable. Jimmie such a great artist, he played Obama, …

The latest artist to rehearse is Fusedmarc from Lithuania. We have just watched their first run through of Rain Of Revolution live on screen and here is our initial reaction. Summary in a sentence Lithuania do everything they can to make this song look as good as possible, unfortunately the song appeals to a niche market. Staging Lithuania really make the most of the LED graphics here, enhancing the red visuals from the national final. During the first chorus there is a heartbeat on the LED which works really well. Towards the end there is a ring of fire on the backdrop and on the floor, which allows for a very effective camera shot from above. Fusedmarc are joined by four backing vocalists. Vocals Viktorija’s vocals are great and she …

Summary in a sentence Bulgaria have several different elements packed into this complicated and mostly effective performance, will be perfect once the timing becomes spot on! Staging The LED backdrop is black and blue themed, with white dynamic lines and shapes. Bulgaria make full use of the chandelier’s many screens. Kristian also has graphics on screen (Francesca Michelin-style) that he manages to interact with even though he can’t see them in the arena. Very modern and will look great once everything is timed perfectly. As the song progresses, the LED has a torrential rain shower effect on it creating …
