RTÉ publishes full Eurovision 2017 costs: €331,482

It has been revealed that RTÉ has spent around €331,482 in order to take on participation in this years Eurovision Song Contest in Kyiv. This was revealed under the ‘Freedom of Information Request’ from the Irish Sun. Smaller participation fee According to the breakdown, it has been revealed that RTÉ paid €84,534 for its participation fee. This is a decrease to the €88,472 that was spent in order to secure its participation in Stockholm. For those who wonder what the participation fee is, it is sort of like a contribution paid to the EBU to assist the host broadcaster in putting on the show. Each competing broadcaster has to pay a certain amount to enter the competition. For the Irish broadcaster, that came down to €84,534 for Kyiv. It is unsure why the fee is lower than last year. Overall cost decreased compare to Stockholm According to a spokesperson mentioned: “RTÉ incurred a cost of approximately €331,482 in delivering Eurovision Song Contest television programming to Irish audiences. However, please note that as the RTÉ annual accounts for 2017 have not yet been finalised. These costs do not include charges for RTÉ labour and support costs, as these will only be finalised once …

Fresh from finishing in a fantastic 4th place in Kyiv at the 2017 Eurovision Song Contest, Blanche is ready to release a brand new track. The song is a special acoustic version of her Eurovision entry City Lights! Therefore, this version strips back the song to just Blanche’s stunningly unique vocals and a piano. This acoustic setting really brings out the emotion in the song with full attention on Blanche and the lyrics. Blanche secured Belgium their third consecutive top ten finish earlier this year and their second 4th place finish in the space of three years. Belgium is on a roll in Eurovision and they will certainly be looking for a victory in the near future. We can’t wait for a new original track from Blanche. OG3NE’s mother Isolde dies aged 48

Sad news from The Netherlands. Isolde Vol, the mother of girl group OG3NE, has passed away. She was aged just 48 and lost a long lasting battle against cancer. The news comes just a few months after her surprise visit to Kyiv, where her daughters represented The Netherlands. Lights and shadows Lisa, Amy and Shelley Vol, also known as OG3NE represented The Netherlands in the most recent Eurovision Song Contest. Their song, Lights And Shadows, was an ode to their mother. The song had been co-composed by their father, Rick Vol. During their time in Kyiv, the girls were aware that their mother was not feeling well enough to travel along to the Eurovision Song Contest. Much to their surprise did their mother decide to travel to the Ukrainian capital just a day before the grand final, in which her daughters finished in eleventh place. The song was an ode to their mother, who had been battling cancer for quite a while already. Isolde Vol was aware she was going to lose her battle, but kept on fighting. Salvador Sobral won the Eurovision Song Contest 2017 with an unbelievable 758 points. After we did the maths, we discovered that under the old voting system, Amar Pelos Dois would’ve smashed Alexander Rybak’s points record, becoming the most popular winner of all time! Now, Salvador’s song has become the most successful Portuguese song of all time on Spotify. Amar Pelos Dois has been streamed over 7.1 million times (1.1 million times on Portuguese devices). Furthermore, the song has become the most played song in 24 hours in both Portugal and Lithuania! Salvador’s Eurovision win is likely to have been a massive help in achieving this. Outside of Spotify, Salvador’s Amar Pelos Dois has enjoyed major success in charts around the globe, topping 15 charts and coming top 10 in 14 others! WATCH: Kristian Kostov performs at MAD VMA

The MAD VMA 2017, which was held on 27 June at the TAE KWO DO in Athens, also featured Bulgaria’s representative of this year’s Eurovision, Kristian Kostov. He had the honour of singing his Beautiful Mess in Greece. MAD VMA loving Bulgaria Kristian Kostov isn’t the first Bulgarian artist to perform at MAD VMA. The past two Eurovision results Bulgaria delivered did not go unnoticed in Greece. In 2016, the Greeks also invited Poli Genova over to perform If Love Was A Crime there. She then sang it together with Demy, who went on to represent the country in Kyiv. Kristian wasn’t alone on stage this time. His Beautiful Mess was turned into a duo performance, together with Snik. She represented Belgium in this year’s Eurovision Song Contest in Kyiv, Ukraine, and got the most points that Belgium has ever received in the contest! Blanche came forth overall, after placing forth in the televoting and ninth with the juries. Now, City Lights has been awarded platinum certification! Blanche’s City Lights has proven to be extremely popular in Belgium. It has spent 15 weeks at the top of the Belgian singles charts, and is still charting in Austria, Sweden, Lithuania, and Switzerland! Only one other song from this year’s Eurovision is still  charting in so many countries. That is the winner, Amar Pelos Dois! Suddenly, everybody wants to represent Belgium! After Blanche’s fantastic result for Belgium in this year’s Eurovision, many artists have shown interest in Eurovision. This includes fan favourite and unfortunate flop from 2006, Kate Ryan. As well as her, there is also Belle Perez, De Romeos, Gene Thomas, Isabelle A, and Ozark! Two Belgian broadcasters, one Flemish and one French-speaking, take it in turns to be in charge of Belgium’s Eurovision participation. WATCH: Robin Bengtsson performs at “Allsång på Skansen”

Earlier last week Robin Bengtsson, Swedens entry at the 2017 Eurovision Song Contest, took the stage at “Allsång på Skansen”. He performed a live version of his song “I Can’t Go On” with the band. Later this year, after touring with Diggiloo, he will release an EP. Robin also released a live acoustic version of his 2017 entry. Meanwhile the Melodifestivalen winning entry reached 18.1 million streams on Spotify! Robin earned Sweden the 6th Top 5 placing in the past seven years at Eurovision. EBU gives UA:PBC 20 days to officially confirm appeal

UA:PBC has confirmed that it will appeal the €198,000 fine that was handed to them by the EBU. They have been given a deadline of 20 days in order to appeal the decision. Preparing to fight their case The head of the Ukrainian broadcaster has confirmed that they have been given 20 days to confirm the appeal. In this time, they must also prepare their arguments and the necessary documents required to proceed with the appeal. The planning for Kyiv was marred with controversies and delays. Overall, the key issues included the following: The timescale for selecting the host city for 2017. The organisers of the show quitting the production team. The Russian participant Yulia Samoilova being barred from entering Ukrainian soil. This was the result of her performing in Russian-annexed Crimea. Due to all of these things occurring, the EBU had no choice but to hand the Ukrainian broadcaster a fine. Yesterday, Nathan Trent teased its release and now it is here! Aire is the Spanish language version of Running On Air. In addition, it features remixed instrumentation, perfect for creating that Spanish sound! It follows in the footsteps of Fino A Che Volerò, the Italian version of the song released just over a week ago. Which version of the song is your favourite?
