In this evening’s official press conference with representatives from the European Broadcasting Union and 2018 Junior Eurovision Song Contest host broadcaster BTRC, the question on everyone’s lips was asked to Jon Ola Sand once again: Will Kazakhstan be allowed to participate in the Eurovision Song Contest? “No representatives” for Kazakhstan in Eurovision 2019 Asked the question by a representative from Kazakh broadcaster Khabar TV, EBU Executive Supervisor of the Eurovision and Junior Eurovision Song Contest, Jon Ola Sand, explained the following: For 2019, there will be no participation for Kazakhstan at the Eurovision Song Contest. It will be discussed with Khabar Agency, the EBU and the Reference Group. It is possible to make exceptions for non-EBU [full] members as Kazakhstan is, but for the time being there is no participation.Jon Ola Sand, 23 November 2018 Additionally, Belarusian broadcaster BTRC pledged support to Kazakhstan for their application to take part in the adult contest. Austrian newspaper Kleine Zeitung have reported that ORF is planning to internally select both the song and artist for Tel Aviv 2019. According to the report, an internal decision is due to be made in December from a selection of potential candidates.  Third time is the charm? Following from 2017 and 2018 respectively, 2019 would mark the third year in a row that ORF have decided to go for an internal selection. Looking at this decade, the Austrian broadcaster have generally favoured a national final to select their Eurovision entry. However, the exception to this rule, pre-2017 happened to win the contest in Copenhagen! We’ve seen Nadav, Hovi, Imri and Netta all win from this selection. And now it’s time to find Israel’s next star for Eurovision, starting this Saturday. 5th year running HaKokhav HaBa L’Eurovizion (The Next Star for the Eurovision) returns for a 5th year this week in order to decide who will represent Israel on home soil. Auditions began on 28 June in Tel Aviv and concluded just over a month later in Or Akiva. Moreover, various well known names are expected to compete this year. The Voice Season Three winner Elkana Marziano and runner-up Tamar Amar are among those rumoured. We may also expect to see Eti Bitton, Maya Buskila and Roey Sandler. A new addition In August, it was announced that Shiri Maimon will become a judge for this selection. Shiri represented Israel back in 2005, finishing fourth with the song “HaSheket SheNish’ar” (“The Silence That Remains”). Three months ago Azerbaijan confirmed participation for Eurovision Song Contest 2019 in Tel Aviv, Israel. Now the first news about Azerbaijan’s plans for next year’s Eurovision Song contest, has been announced by INFE Azerbaijan – Azerbaijan goes internal once again. Casting scheduled to select singer INFE Azerbaijan has announced that the publich broadcaster from Azerbaijan Ictimai TV has scheduled a casting on November 20th in order to select the singer that will represent Azerbaijan in Eurovision 2019 in Tel Aviv, Israel. It is almost the same same selection format that “the land of fire” also used in 2018, namely a singer to be selected through a casting behind closed doors, and once the singer has been chosen, then the song to be also selected internally just like in 2018 when Ictimai TV chose Dimitris Kontopoulos “X My Heart”. Azerbaijan in Eurovision Song Contest Azerbaijan first participated in Eurovision 2008, reaching 8th place. The open call for songs to compete in Festival da Canção 2019 has reached its deadline. According to RTP, they have received over 200 songs. To judge these songs, RTP will form a jury for this purpose. Personalities with “recognised merit” in the field of music and television and music production will be part of the jury. Out of these attempts, they will choose one song to compete in Festival da Canção 2019.  Festival da Canção 2019 The next edition of the Portuguese national final will have a similar format to the one used in 2018. However, instead of 26 competing songs, only sixteen songs will compete in Festival da Canção 2019. Swedish broadcaster SVT has revealed when we’ll find out who is going to take part in Melodifestivalen 2019. The date for the press conference has been set for Tuesday, November 27th. Revealing their hopefuls The Swedish broadcaster is used to making a big media event of their Melodifestivalen announcement. As is tradition, they’ll host a press conference to announce all 28 hopefuls. RTVE’s submissions for Operación Triunfo 2018‘s Gala Eurovision closed yesterday. Now familiar names, including Ruth Lorenzo, Brisa Fenoy and Emma Sandström have revealed they have submitted songs. Switzerland to announce their entry in March!

The Swiss broadcaster, Schweizer Radio und Fernsehen (SRF) has announced that the final stage of their selection process to select the Swiss entrant to the upcoming Eurovision Song Contest is underway. They also announced that the entry will be announced in March although the date of the reveal was not specified. The contest is due to take place in Tel-Aviv, Israel. Change of Direction. In the Eight years that spanned 2011-2018, Switzerland has used the National Final format Die Grosse Entscheidungsshow (The Big Decision Show). But for 2019, SRF decided to take a different approach to the selection format. The Internal Selection Format. They announced that a panel of 100 members of the public. 6100 people applied to be a part of this “Public Jury”. These were narrowed down to 1000.
