Turin 2022🇮🇹 Italy

Eurovision 2022 hosts to be announced after Sanremo

According to the Director of Rai1, the hosts for Turin 2022 will be announced in February at the earliest.

After months of bids, declarations and speculation, Turin was announced as the host city of the 2022 Eurovision Song Contest in October. However, the announcement of the hosts will be made later than in previous years; Rai have said that the hosts will be revealed after Sanremo.

The Eurovision 2022 hosting line-up has yet to be revealed, but Alessandro Cattelan and Chiara Ferragni have widely been the rumoured frontrunners. We may have a while longer to wait for the confirmation, according to Rai1 Director Stefano Coletta.

In an interview with ANSA, Rai1 Director Stefano Coletta said that the hosts will not be revealed until after Festival di Sanremo 2022, which is being held between February 1 and 5.

For reference, the hosts for Eurovision 2020/21 were revealed in December 2019.

Eurovision 2022 so far

A total seventeen Italian cities submitted their candidacy to host the Eurovision Song Contest 2022. However, only 3 of these proposed cities met all of the requirements. Notably, Verona, Naples and Bari did not submit bids after initially expressing interest.

After submitting their initial bids, each candidate received a more detailed document ahead of the next stage. Six of the above were then eliminated from the process following a meeting of the Board of Directors. Then, the remaining 11 candidates were cut to five. Rai, in coordination with the EBU, agreed to select the host city by the end of August…but ended up being delayed until October.

The Grand Final will be held in Turin’s PalaOlimpico on Saturday 14 May with Semi-Finals on 10 and 12 May, with Eurovillage 2022 set to be located at Piazza San Carlo.

Måneskin won the Eurovision Song Contest 2021 with “Zitti E Buoni”, taking us to Italy for the first time since 1991. We will report as the selection process continues!
