David Sundin confirmed to us, that he will not be returning as host for the upcoming edition of Melodifestivalen. This comes after local media in Sweden reported, that it is likely for David to return as a host of the popular TV-Show after hosting the show in 2020!

He has hosted this year’s Melodifestivalen with Lina Hedlund and Linnea Henriksson. It seems that SVT are pleased with his performance, as it’s been reported that David Sundin will make a return hosting the Swedish national selection in 2021.
Decision made before the Summer
According to Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet, it’s been revealed that the decision to have David return to host in 2021 was made before summer. In addition, Afftonbladet also reports that he will be joined by another co-host. However, they are unaware of who and how many co-hosts there will be.
Melodifestivalen tour cancelled?
In the same article, Aftonbladet also reports that the Melodifestivalen 2021 will not proceed. We have previously reported that this is one of the options being considered by SVT.
It’s being reported by Aftonbladet, that SVT is planning to broadcast the six shows in Stockholm either at Annex near the Globen Arena (2000 and 2016 Eurovision venue) or NEP studios in Spånga, where TV4 broadcasts Idol Sweden.
With reports of a smaller-scale Melodifestivalen 2021, it’s still unclear if SVT will sell tickets for the shows.
Sweden at the Eurovision Song Contest
Sweden has participated in the contest 59 times since its debut in 1958. They have missed only three contests since their debut (1964, 1970 and 1976). Since 1959, the Swedish entry has been chosen through Melodifestivalen. In 1997, Sweden was one of the first five countries to adopt televoting, and have continued to innovate the technology behind the contest whenever they host.
Sweden is one of the most successful countries at contest, winning six contests so far. Notably, their wins span their participation history; their victories span five decades with ABBA (1974), Herreys (1984), Carola (1991), Charlotte Nilsson (1999), Loreen (2012) and Måns Zelmerlöw (2015). They currently have the the second-highest number of wins, behind Ireland’s seven.
In 2020, Sweden was set to be represented by The Mamas, after they won Melodifestivalen 2020 with the song ‘Move’. Unfortunately, the contest was cancelled.
