Eurovision Trivia: So You Think You Know Israel

Eurovision Trivia: So You Think You Know Israel

We arrive at the current title holders, it’s Israeli quiz time. Israel were the first country not in Europe to join in the fun of Eurovision, being quite culturally close to Europe, and all. They’ve certainly been an interesting presence, with many Israeli entries reflecting Hebrew and Jewish tradition quite effectively, and nearly always retaining the Israeli character. Let’s find out how much you know about their most notable moments in the contest. With the season kicking into full gear, this will be the last ‘So You Think You Know’ for this Eurovision calendar year. If your country is in the latter half of the alphabet, do not worry, we will not forget you. The series will resume after the final of Eurovision 2019 with Italy. Israel, as this year’s host, is the perfect place to stop. So, watch out next Wednesday for a new quiz series to replace it during the Eurovision National Final season. Eurovision Trivia: So You Think You Know… Ireland

Eurovision Trivia: So You Think You Know… Ireland

For many English-speaking people, and for some slightly older people, Ireland is the king of Eurovision. Especially during the 90s, they were entirely unstoppable at winning the contest, and won it three times in a row. Measures about trying to stop their success were joked about. Now, they have a bit more trouble doing so well, but did well this year with Ryan O’Shaughnessy’s ‘Together’. Let’s see how much you know about their participation with this Ireland quiz. Junior Eurovision is over, Melodifestivalen announcement is out, we are merely a month away from some of the first national finals, but there’s still time for some trivia in the weeks ahead. I hope you’ll join me. So You Think You Know… is a series that will arrive each Wednesday, each time focusing on a new active Eurovision country. We are continuing alphabetically, Israel will be next. Eurovision Trivia: So You Think You Know… Iceland

Iceland are one of the nations that often end up as a fan favourite. Perhaps not in 2018, and if you’ve joined the Eurovision fandom recently you might not have experienced any of their great successes for yourself, seeing as they haven’t qualified for the final for the last few years, but they have had a considerable run of high-quality entrants in the past, very impressive considering the low population of the island. And with this high quality also comes interesting entrants to build an Icelandic quiz for. So let’s see how much you have picked up. Eurovision Trivia: So You Think You Know… Hungary

Eurovision Trivia: So You Think You Know… Hungary

Hungary have turned into an old reliable friend to see in Eurovision. Seven years ago, that would not have been the picture, spotty participation and only occasionally good results, but the Hungary of today provides us regularly with a competent song that is at least pleasant to listen to (yes, even AWS), if not even better. Hungarian trivia will give us plenty of interesting results to untangle, let’s see how much you know. With a few weeks before we begin looking forward to Eurovision 2019, although a reminder that we are merely a month away from some of the first national finals, it’s that time in a Eurovision fan’s year to reflect on past years and all the good music and events they brought. And, also, some trivia. So You Think You Know… is a series that will arrive each Wednesday, each time focusing on a new active Eurovision country. Eurovision Trivia: So You Think You Know… Greece

Eurovision Trivia: So You Think You Know… Greece

Greece in the 2000s was a huge player in Eurovision. Running a streak of unbroken top 10s from 2004 to 2011, they were always an exciting prospect to watch. Budget issues and song choices moving somewhat away from the traditional Greek ethno-party number have seen their success limited in recent years, with their 20th century results not being particularly notable. On the whole, there’s plenty to be interested in our Greek trivia here, let’s see what you know. Eurovision Trivia: So You Think You Know… Germany

Eurovision Trivia: So You Think You Know… Germany

Germany needs no introduction. One of the biggest countries in Europe and Eurovision, they’ve been there (in at least the West form prior to reunification) since the beginning and have, in Eurovision terms, done it all. One of the big 5, they have no shortage of interesting entries and so German trivia is some of the best bits of trivia available. And for this quizmaster, he has German relatives, which makes it easy to support them in a competition like this. On to the quiz! Eurovision Trivia: So You Think You Know… FYR Macedonia

A note on the naming: This country may well soon change its name to North Macedonia for Eurovision purposes, with a vote recently passed in their parliament. However for now FYR Macedonia is still an official name and the one listed on this site, so to ensure I did not forget it should the name change not go through in time, it’s under the Fs for Macedonian quiz purposes. Whatever their official name, the Macedonians haven’t had the best of luck in Eurovision, with few qualifications in recent years and no big successes. Being the permanent underdog is one way to attract a few fans however.
