Following their decision to exclude Russia from Eurovision Song Contest 2022 and the Russian members’ announcement that they will be leaving the European Broadcasting Union, the EBU has now decided to suspend representatives from its three Russian Members from serving in its governance groups.
In the light of ongoing invasion of Ukraine, Executive Board of The European Broadcasting Union has made the decision to suspend the representatives from its three Russian Members (The Russian Television and Radio Broadcasting Company (RTR), Channel One Russia and Radio House Ostankino) from serving in its governance groups, including the Executive Board and all Statutory Committees. This follows the decision taken last week to exclude Russia from the 2022 Eurovision Song Contest.
In taking this action, the Executive Board took note of the public statement issued by the three Member organizations on announcing their intention to withdraw from the EBU. The Members have verbally confirmed to us their intent to leave, but the EBU is still awaiting their formal confirmation. The suspension will remain in effect until further notice has been given by the Executive Board of the EBU. Once the broadcasters have officially withdrawn from the EBU, they will not be able to take part in the Eurovision Song Contest, the Junior Eurovision Song Contest or any other events organized by the EBU.
Currently the Executive Board of EBU includes a Russian representative, Sebastian Sergei Parker. The Eurovision Song Contest Reference Group does not include any representatives of the Russian EBU members, but the Junior Eurovision Song Contest Steering Group includes Ekaterina Orlova, representative of the Russian member RTR.
