Last month, it was announced that Samanta Tina had already chosen her Eurovision 2021 entry. Overall, Samanta and her team wrote 11 potential ESC songs during the songwriting camp this summer. Now, she has been teasing the entry over social media.
Over the past few days, Samanta has been in the studio recording a mysterious new track. Although this wasn’t initially said to be her entry for Rotterdam, yesterday she confirmed that it is. The title is not known, but the lyric ‘the moon is rising’ is featured in the snippets she has dropped, such as the clips below:
According her Instagram story posted yesterday, her entry is recorded and she is in the process of recording the backing vocals later this week. It is also being rumoured that she is collaborating with Aminata once again on the entry.
Latvia at the Eurovision Song Contest
Latvia joined the Eurovision Song Contest in Stockholm in 2000. Brainstorm with their song ‘My Star’ finished third in a field of 24, one of the strongest showings for a country’s first participation in the competition.
Marie N with the song “I Wanna” brought the winner’s trophy to her country in 2002. Riga hosted the competition the following year.
After Latvia’s strong debut in the Eurovision Song Contest, the country went on to achieve its third top-five placing in 2005. Before that, however, the home team placed 24th in Riga in 2003 despite being tipped as one of the ones to watch for the night.
In 2020 Samanta Tina won the national selection final and was going to represent Latvia at the Eurovision 2020 with the song “Still Breathing”. Despite the show cancellation, the national broadcaster decided to choose Samanta internally for the Eurovision 2021.
