Melodi Grand Prix 2022 acts to be announced on January 6

Expect a range of genres, including big ballads, heavy rock, opera, country and pop.

Previously, it was confirmed that the final of Melodi Grand Prix 2022 will take place on February 19. Meanwhile, the selection is due to kick off with semi-final one on January 15. Yesterday, it was announced that the names of the artists competing in the selection will be announced on January 6.

According to EscNorge, NRK will announce the artists competing in Melodi Grand Prix 2022 on Monday January 6 2022. Although the exact method of reveal has not been announced, it is expected that there will be a change to how it was conducted for 2021. This year, the acts were revealed in batches on the Monday prior to the live show the acts were competing in. Further, the songs were also released in batches on the Thursday before each show.

The broadcaster has teased that viewers can expect a wide range of genres in MGP 2022.

MGP 2022 offers great variety and diversity. There will be sophisticated artisanal pearls of some songs. There will be party songs for the dance floor, there will be theatrical numbers, there will be big ballads, heavy rock, opera, country and the most modern music of 2021. In my, not entirely objective eyes, perhaps one of the best musical versions we have had. The level of this year’s vocalists is out of this world.”

What else do we know?

The dates for Melodi Grand Prix 2022 were confirmed back in early September:

  • Semi-Final One – January 15
  • Semi-Final Two – January 22
  • Semi-Final Three – January 29
  • Semi-Final Four – February 5
  • Semi-Final Five – February 12
  • Grand Final – February 19

The song submission window closed on September 15. According to EscNorge, fewer Swedish and foreign songwriters have submitted songs than in previous years.

With format changes being discussed by NRK, the following have already been confirmed:

  • The maximum space available at Fornebu’s H3 Arena will be used – meaning a larger venue than last year’s edition.
  • An audience will be present during the shows, unlike last year, but the size has not been decided yet.

Earlier this year, TIX represented Norway at Eurovision 2021 in Rotterdam, qualifying from the semi-final in 10th place. In the final, TIX finished in 18th place scoring 75 points.
