Estonia selects Ragnar Klavan for their Eurovision 2023 spokesperson

Estonian broadcaster ERR have revealed who their spokesperson for Eurovision 2023 will be, and it is a familiar face to some locals.

Estonia have become the latest country to announce who will reveal their points in the Grand Final of Eurovision 2023, and their choice has a strong connection to host city Liverpool.

37 year old soccer player Ragnar Klavan will be the spokesperson for Estonia this year. This news was announced on the official Instagram page from Eesti Laul this morning.

Ragnar Klavan

Ragnar Klavan is a 37-year old professional football player born in Viljandi, Estonia. His dad played on the Estonian national football team, and that must have inspired young Ragnar to do just that. He debuted on the national team in 2003, when he was just 17 years old.

Klavan started out playing in his home country, but has since played for clubs in Norway, the Netherlands, Germany, the UK and Italy. Klavan has won the Estonian Player of the Year award seven times, in 2012 and from 2014 to 2019.

There is also a connection between Klavan and Eurovision 2023. Klavan played for Eurovision host city Liverpool between 2016 and 2018, but is now playing for Paide Linnameeskond in the top flight of his home country.
