🇳🇴 KEiiNO release new single ‘UNBREAKABLE’

The second chapter of a four part series, following 'MONUMENT'

Just three weeks ago the Eurovision 2019 televote winners KEiiNO surprised everyone with their Melodi Grand Prix 2021 comeback and second place finish with ‘MONUMENT’. Yet KEiiNO’s love for Eurovision and their ‘UNBREAKABLE’ bond lives on. Now they release the second single in a four part special leading up to the May contest.

‘Tis the season to celebrate KEiiNO

Much like Christmas, Eurovision is also the season that keeps on giving. So although KEiiNO will not be taking part in Rotterdam this year, they still want to spread goodwill with more music for us to enjoy ahead of the May contest. Which is why the Norwegian group have put together a collection of singles that will be released monthly in the run up to this year’s Eurovision Song Contest. While we won’t have a normal pre-party season again this year, music and togetherness can still be enjoyed in our own way, and in KEiiNO’s way with this four part special.

“Regardless of the result in this year’s Melodi Grand Prix we had a plan bigger than just ‘MONUMENT’. We know that a lot of people in the Eurovision community would get together to celebrate this year’s new songs «in a normal year». And we would have loved joining all the pre-parties possible. But we feared this year would be different, so we planned a 4-step musical rocket to contribute in lifting the spirit. Our new single released today, ‘UNBREAKABLE’, is the second of the four songs we’ll release leading up to Eurovision in May.”

With the thunder and gloria of their familiar electronic synths, KEiiNO are back with another anthem on New Music Friday. Today they release ‘UNBREAKABLE’ the second of the four singles to be released by May. The song is written and produced by the band, along with Alexander Nyborg Olsson and Rüdiger Schramm. Here Alex and Tom become the melodic narrators, retelling the classic fairytale by Katherine Arden, The Bear and the Nightingale. Which speaks to their own childhoods of growing up feeling they didn’t fit in. The uplifting chorus unites the unbreakable bonds of KEiiNO, as they remind us that nobody is broken. Through this song they reach out to our inner strength when we feel alone.

“We want everyone to feel seen and appreciated in our little musical universe that is KEiiNO, and our new single ‘UNBREAKABLE’ is a celebration to everyone who feel they don’t fit it. The song is inspired by the novel, The Bear and the Nightingale, which is again inspired by Russian fairy tales like The Snow Maiden.”

KEiiNO at the Eurovision Song Contest

As one of the fan favourites, they won Europe and Australia’s hearts, coming top in the televote. They placed sixth overall with a total of 331 points. Thus achieving Norway’s highest points total last decade and best result since Margaret Berger placed fourth in 2013 with ‘I Feed You My Love’. Their platinum debut single, ‘Spirit In The Sky’ was nominated for ‘Song of the Year’ at the Norwegian Grammys and has won 4 Scandipop-awards. Since then the trio have toured from London to Australia, releasing hit after hit, such as ‘Praying‘, ‘Colours‘ and ‘Would I Lie‘ from OKTA. Recently following up OKTA with ‘Transarctic Lover‘, and their Christmas single ‘A Winter’s Night‘. As well as receiving international recognition at the 2020 National Indigenous Music Awards.

Earlier this year KEiiNO shocked the fandom with the news of their Melodi Grand Prix 2021 comeback. They had unfinished business with Eurovision, and after two years of success, wanted to repay that loyalty with a new message through ‘MONUMENT’. At the same time the group filmed a documentary series covering their whirlwind adventures of 2019 and a vlog to allow fans a glimpse into the process behind the comeback. During the final, the public televote advanced KEiiNO all the way to the Gold Duel. However it was the surprise package from TIX that captured the viewers’ votes. Unlike their new single, it was not the fairytale ending this time. But in the spirit of fair play, the group have offered their congratulations and advice to TIX.

“Of course we are disappointed. This was our big dream, and we really felt ‘MONUMENT’ would have great chances of doing well in Eurovision. However, it is time to get behind TIX and cheer him on in Rotterdam. We have already offered him our best tips for how to represent Norway the best way possible.”
