With the Eurovision 2022 Grand Final still not even a month behind us, news and rumors about Eurovision 2023 are already circulating. Cyprus floated the idea of using All Together Now as their 2023 national selection, and the UK is reportedly already starting discussions about their Eurovision act for next year.
And as is customary for this time of year, artists from all over Europe are teasing potential submissions for Eurovision 2023. Notably, Irish band Wild Youth and Serbian singer Luke Black have both gone to Twitter to announce their desire to represent their respective countries at Eurovision next year.
Wild Youth is an Irish indie boy band consisting of David Whelan, Conor O’Donohoe, Ed Porter and Callum McAdam. The band has had a handful of hits since they started making music together in 2017, including songs like “Can’t Move On,” “Long Time No See,” and “Making Me Dance.” The band has also supported huge acts on tour in the Isles this year, including Lewis Capaldi and Westlife.
Last week, band member Conor O’Donohoe tweeted his desire to write next year’s Irish Eurovision entry and have Wild Youth perform it as well. In the tweet, he tagged Michael Kealy, head of the Irish delegation for Eurovision at RTÉ. Though no official statement has come from RTÉ about this offer, Kealy did like O’Donohoe’s tweet. The band’s official Twitter would also quote tweet O’Donohoe, responding only with the Irish flag emoji.
Earlier in May, Serbian pop singer Luke Black stated in a series of tweets that he too wishes to compete in Eurovision 2023 for his country. On May 24th, Black tweeted that he “has the eurovision song,” and on the 29th, tweeted that he has “two songs for esc.”
Luke Black is not a stranger to the Eurovision rumor mill. In 2016, it was announced that his name was in the running to represent Serbia in the 2016 Eurovision Song Contest, though RTS ultimately selected Sanja Vučić and her song “Goodbye (Shelter).” Black’s song “Demons” was rumored to be the song he would have sent if he had been selected, and Black later confirmed this to be true.
